Which British boxers can win, or unify world titles in 2006? Here are my picks:-
HW - Danny Williams or Matt Skelton outside chance of winning a version in 06
CW - Johnny Nelson will retire in 06, David Haye good chance of winning a version, Enzo Macarinelli punchers chance
LH - Clinton Woods to hang onto IBF title, but prob lose a unification against Tarver (if they fight). Calzaghe could step up and win a version
SM - Calzaghe to lose against Jeff Lacy, Carl Froch will pick up a version at some point, maybe not till 07?
Midd, Jun Midd, WW - cant see any Brits winning a world title in 06, would have loved to see Howard Eastman picking up a MW belt but his best days are behind him
Light Welt - Ricky Hatton to rule in 06, especially now PBF has moved up to WW. Junior Witter outside chance of winning WBC belt in a vacant title match
Light - Cant see any Brit fighters making a mark here at world level until Amir Khan in a couple of years
SF / F - Scott Harrison to be involved for a while, Alex Arthur & Nicky Cook could win belts
Bantam / Fly - Damean Kelly outside chance

Is Amir lightweight I thought he was fighting at 140 as he weighs 138ish

Heavy - Williams-Skeleton winner gets a shot at Valuez - winnable

Cruser - Haye if he gets a shot should win a belt - too soon for Mormeck though

LH - Woods and maybe Calazage

SM - Calazage boxes Lacys head off to add the IBF

LW - Witter wins WBC unless he gets shafted. Hatton will probably give up a belt rather than facing FW mandatories, Hatton/Witter won't fight elite fighters this year

SF - Arthurs not world standard, Harrison could grab a belt against a weak belt holder

F - Cook is he highly rated in the WBC? Could do some damage

Khan's looking at a title shot in May 2007.

I think Harrison's going to get a nasty surprise against Guzman.

Mormeck's moving up to heavy, apparently. Real shame that but it does leave the door open. The rest of the top cruisers, Nelson excepted, are bangers, which means opportunity.

I'd like to see Scott Dann pushed a bit, although maybe not this year (and to be fair he's never going to be the next Hopkins)

I'd certainly be a lot more convinced by Kahn if he had greater amatre expereance to fall back on.What weaknesses do you see dean.

Froch I recon will be challenging by the end of the year if he continues in his current active vaine he should be at least EBU title holder.

Haye deffinatly able to get a shot but winning may prove difficult if the other guy don't fall over anyone heard anything on the Tompson fight.

2006 may be a bit soon for some of our prospects to challange for a major title, the likes of Mitchell, Murray, Morris might not get to their best till 2007 and after.

Meaning he thinks he can beat Khan - you can't go in the ring thinking you'll lose. I'd love to see Khan move upto Brit Level in the next 9-12months

I dont think anyone will come through this year, maybe Witter but i'm losing faith in him at the moment.

Khans open to been tagged really hard on the jaw by a brutal counter at the moment, its boxing and you can be a lowly journeyman who gets outboxed time after time but if you can bang you can KO a youngster like Khan if you get a little lucky. Khan hardly brings the touch of sleep either.

I agree, that comment from Dean is somewhat biast of wanting to fight him maybe? But Khan will not get found out at british level.

Nicky Cook is my bet for an outside chance, he's world rated lets not forget, he's number 1 with the WBC. Not sure he deserves that ranking yet, but there you go.

Reckon it's a little soon for him yet.

i agree with you about kevin mitchell but i would like too see martin power or dale robinson go at it again for a bigger title such the eu or even a remacth against power for the british title

Totally agree with this. Khan is not a puncher and gets caught with the occasional clean shots from lighter journeyman. When he moves up, those shots will put him over. Look at what craig Watson did.

At the moment Khan knows what level he's fighting against, i'm sure he wouldn't be so reckless once he steps up against a heavy puncher.
As he gets older then his power will develop, i can see what people are saying about Khan leaving his chin a bit high, something for his trainer to work on.

Get found out?! It amazes me that after the few pro fights he has had, you are so knowledgable and confident about Khan's alleged hidden flaws and inability to fight at world class level. Even those close to him cannot truly know! He's just starting off! Your pesimism smells of jealousy and little boxing know how.

As for Khan winning a world title in 06, I think if it happens, it would not be till 07 at earliest.

Got to give Eamonn Magee and Junior Witter a shot at the Welterweight champions. Especially Baldomir and perhaps Collazo, whom I am not convinced about.

I don't know if he will win any titles, but I cannot wait to see some more of David Haye!

O'Neil Bell has a suspect chin, and if Haye could get a shot a him he has an excellent chance of a title. Haye will have to get to mandatory status for one of his titles, as Bell would never risk fighting Haye voluntarily.

Little boxing know how?? I would be more inclined to say it smells of "I'd like a good pay day fighting khan and in my mind i'd drop and beat him" how can you say a guy with deans record has "little boxing know how" ?

Quite right, I find it hard to believe than Dean knows less about boxing than you do Fist, after all, he does fight professionally.
