Not the most imaginative thread, but I just wanted your thoughts on who in your opinion, is the best prospect in Britain at this moment.

For me, it has to be John Murray. The guy is something special in my opinion, admittedly, he appears to be lacking a bit in the power department, but I feel he is a very good all rounded boxer. Has some very good abilities on him and I feel at some time this year he will move to the next level. To be honest, he has been getting tagged a little bit in some of his recent fights and his last one was closer than I expected, but I feel this will stand him in good stead for when he steps up a notch. For an up and comer, his opposition hasn't been too bad and all this international experience has to be good for him.

I feel seriously optomistic about this guy.

He was at my amateur club, and still comes down now and then. I didn't used to think he was much of a puncher, just hurt you with shots you didn't see and expect. But I sparred with him this week and he is punching very hard now, and he has always been fast but he seems to have got faster.

There was talk of him fighting David Walker last year, but that would just be a massacre.

He was on KOs of the year on Sky recently.

YES! a vote for John! or the next Ali as I like to call him! Am also keen on John Murry, he does seem to have a very good head for such a young kid. As his power and experience grow he'll just get better. Amir Kahn is the best prospect we have though.

Cheers, the British Middles have picked up a bit lately, what with Dann , Lockett, Rhodes , Elcock. Will be interesting to see if Smalls can make an impact

Theres a few at the moment and if they all or even a few turn out as good as they look right now then we'll have a few world champs in the future especially at the lower weights.
John Murray Amir Khan and Ricky Burns have impressed me the most. Paul Smith and Derry Matthews too have potential and have looked good when ive seen them.
It has to be Murray though. He hasn't had a win yet thats as good as Burns over Earl but no matter where or what notice he fights he wins.

Think its Amir Khan myself, the guy is the best prospect I have seen in years. Its earlier in his career than in some others (Murray, Mitchell, Corcoran - all 3 have impressed) so he might not end up the best - however it looks frightening at the moment.

khan looks like the guy to take on the task of reviving the british scene within the next few years....he can probably pick his spots at anywhere from 130-140 pounds, altho he'll probaably outgrow the junior lights before too long!!!

Kevin Mitchell, only if he learns to avoid them right hands Medjadji was landing throughout their fight.

Gary 'Hot Stuff' Woolcombe ... i fancy him to make waves on the domestic scene in 2006.

Watch out for Jason Wellborn , i covered a fight in Brum in December where he made his debut , he looks one to watch .....

Im intrested to see what road Khan goes down this year.......

I like his nickname and I like the way he talks in his post fight interviews hes full of himself in a 'tongue in cheek' kind way and I can't fault it. Its still very early days for him in the ring, but hes very quick, he looks to have decent power, good reactions/reflexes and has a very flambuoyant style.

His defence will take some criticism due to his low left hand and it might be his downfall in the longrun, but hes great entertainment.


Our best allround/complete prospect is John Murray IMO. Kevin Mitchells poor defence which was highlighted in his last outing.

Can't argue with the names mentioned so far. I reckon Small and Khan have the most star potential, but the likes of Murray, Morris and Mitchell could also reach world class if they keep on developing. Not sure about Ricky Burns. I like his skills, but he could definitely do with developing his power a bit!
