David Barnes makes an eagerly anticipated comeback to the domestic welterweight scene on Saturday the 28th of Jan at the Nottingham arena( according to box recs schedule), Barnes first fight since losing to Joshua Okine, also Barnes has a date penciled in for april the 3rd at the MEN arena, opponents for both dates are TBA.

I'm pleased Barnes is back on the scene as I think he is a great talent and has ability to go far. Despite his unfortunate last two results against Joshua Okine and Ali Nummbembe, I feel that Barnes can overcome those results, with a steady rebuilding process and get back into the British, Commonwealth and European title mix.

As for the Nottingham show on the 28th, there seems to be a good undercard ( apart from Khan), featuring the likes of Tony Doherty, Jonjo Finnegan, Martin Conception, Kell Brook, Scott Haywood, to name but a few.

What are your thoughts on Barnes and how do you rate him?

I rate Barnes and it's good to see him back, although I do worry something was quite wrong with him against Okine. I feel he has the beating of the rest of the division domestically if he can repeat the form he showed beating Hare.

I thought he was going to come back at lightwelter though?

I always thought he seemed to have quite a stocky upper body and that he would struggle to fight at anything lighter then welter, in my opinion of course

I agree but have heard him say before he could easily make lightwelter

Whenever I hear of David Barnes I can not help but think how badly Jimmy Vincent was robbed against him.

But best of luck to Barnes, he showed some real promise a year-and-a-half or so ago.

After he demolished Hare i genuinely thought he was the man but the way he feel apart so drastically against Okine was alarming. If he can get rid of the demons from that loss he has a chance of getting back to where he was. If he was mentally right i have no doubt he would have dealt with Okine. Anyone know if he is still with Brian Hughes?

I did rate him but those last two results have made me rethink. He is a good fighter, if he can learn how to cope under pressure and when he's hurt he can come back. I'm gonna hold my judgement till I see him return.
