i cant believe a seller is trying to flog pictures i took for my website and is trying to claim them as his own.

You're fornicating right, Chris. In my experience, for all the posturing and claims ebay make about security, etc the appearance is that they couldn't give a fornicate as long as they make money and they only ever pull absolutely outrageous stuff, users with multi, multi complaints or things that have garnered national media attention.

I know there are many people who swear by it but I've hardly used it at all and been done three times - not for big amounts but that's not the point.

I'd definitely drop ebay a line and tell them some pudendum is flogging pics to which you have the copyright.

You got to start protecting your pics like the guy did with your pic on ebay.

Unfortunatly this does happen quit a bit though. With todays printers you can make anything look original.

yes i would like to do what getty do to copyright there pics.

does anyone know a picture editor that can do that?

When I done an interview and took some good photographs of Wayne McCullough training in Belfast for Scott Harrison they were on eastsideboxing when I wrote for them a few years ago.

Last year, I was waiting for my car in a waiting room during a service and my girlfriend was reading a magazine called the Ulster Tatler and said to me, "Heres something on Wayne McCullough". I picked it up and there, a full page photograph I had took, I near dropped!

I emailed them at least 3 or 4 times saying it was my photograph they had used and I never heard a single thing back. Something similar Chris, I still have the page as I ripped it out. On the other hand, in a way I was pleased that they liked my picture so much they used it as a full feature picture in a top Northern Ireland magazine

You can manually add watermarks using gimp or photoshop or do it automatically with image magic http://www.imagemagick.org/script/index.php

you could always set up a bogus ebay account, win the bid on the picture. then you say you want to pay by cheque, they will then supply their name and home adress, you could then let them know that if they ever use you stuff again you know who they are and where they live.

of course i have never done anything like this, just something i over heard once.....honest

i got a reply and he agreed to remove them. seem it was a mistake on his half, getting the pics from a contact.

This sort of thing is happening the whole time.

Sure I know of a reputable seller of DVD's who posts here and is selling copies of a fight collection I made myself last year.

slightly different as the rights to the fights belong to neither you nor him, these photos belong to real deal.

The only way to stop this is to contact e-bay directly and keep checking back to ensure they dont go back up.

At least Real deal can make some extra bucks now though.

Just to let you know the lady in the background is Tracy Pollard.

She loves boxing and does some great write ups for the fighters in and around Manchester for the local press.

and the colour of the punching bag is blue and red.

hope she keeps up the good work on the local press

The copyright text will not appear on the original - this is to stop images being stolen.

I'm convinced ebay is the best place to fence stolen goods, and the biggest market place for stolen goods in the world.

On the other hand, I've always been lucky when I've bought stuff on ebay. Not sure I'd buy something expensive there though.

Just watermark all your stuff and also never publish it on the internet in high resolution format. For the purposes of just showing people on the net your photos, you shouldn't need to upload a version any bigger than say 640pixels wide, that way nobody will be able to create particularly good quality large prints from that sort of size source file.
