Lenny Dawes a right price...

5/1 with Sid James to win on points tonight. It's a Hennessy show and a late notice job for Lynes (after Xmas as well). Huge value I reckon if Lenny can take Lynes' power.

Local lad to me, he is. Go on Lenny.
Anybody think it's worth a bet?

although an underdog that is a good bet, worth a tenner.
Lynes is good, but beatable.

What was the knockdown Dawes suffered against Saheed like - flash knockdown or more serious?

Feel like crying. Had £300 at 11/2 and 80 at 3/1 on Daws points win. Got my stake back in-running but that will never happen again in 100 years of boxing.

Watched it again this morning and still can't get over it. Not sure how ill Lynes was to be honest. Looked slightly staged to me and he was quickly on his toes back to the dressing room after. In fact I was the only fornicator choking last night on my pint. Looked nailed on to go 12. Typical of my luck at the minute I'm afraid.

I don't think that Lynes was staging it, just seemed that he had pushed himself to the limit, don't forget that he had a cut inside of his mouth so could have swallowed alot of blood, sometimes this will have a gag effect on a person

Maybe your right Topps and I'm just talking through my pocket. Can u imagine my face last night? Daws corner just telling him it's a 3 round fight now. Don't do anything daft as it's in the bag. Then it cuts to Lynes and he looks like me most Saturday/Sunday mornings. Just all looked a little suss. I respect Colin Lynes and know he can have a row. Maybe he is ready to wrap it up now (I remember him talking about moving to Oz a while ago) and he took this fight for dough with a nice few quid on himself to lose in nine? I dunno. What I do know is I was 9 minutes away from a nice loittle earner and am still kicking myself for not taking the 7/2 on Daws anytime.

Lynes has often ran out of steam when fighting at a high paced match.... He often doesn't quite know how to pace himself.... I was surprised at the pullout/retirement, but he did look pretty knackered.
Here's a bold pick in the future - should Daws meet Witter, I would pick Daws to win. Looks to have a good workrate, good hanspeed and a good chin. I really do think if you have those factors you beat the 32 year old Witter.

I can see what your saying, but i don't think that Daws has the punch to keep Witter at bay, Daws might develop a bit more of a punch as he gets older , I wouldn't have Daws anywhere near Witter at the moment, but if Witter fails in a world title try then he is going to have to look at the British title again.

Don't think power gets into the equation once you go past the 5th or 6th with Witter. He gets so knackered and does nothing. I know he has says he has had motivational problems, but three fights in a row now - surely its not all motivational problems.
He is a completely different fighter to the one who coasted (and didn't look out of breath) 12 rounds vs Judah. People used to laugh at his title "the hitter" cause he never planted his feet and didn't look a concusive hitter. Now he plants his feet, he knocks out most of his opposition, but at the cost of him getting tired early.
He gets so tired that he seems to be unable to effectively revert back to the old style to conserve, he is just to knackered to even think properly.
Now, if Junior was back to his old fleet foot, Johnny Nelson esque, boxer then he would probably win a comfortable decision - but I don't know if he wants to (or can) fight like that anymore.
Look at the KO% of Lynes and Kotelink, even N'dou's isn't huge. Both Lynes and Kotelink are worse than Lynes - yet both came very close to upseting Witter (Kotelink especially). The power of the punches wasn't important, it was the fact that Witter was doing naff all, and they could still throw leather.

Daws is nowhere near Witter, even ttodays version of Witter.
Lynes, as Jim Watt said many times, fought a very different style as to what he normally does, this only helped Daws.
Daws whilst tremendously fit is only just British title level at best, Oscar Hall just ran out of steam with him after wasting lots and lots of energy when he saw the cut.
No, Daws is too far away from Witter to even suggest a match.

Most thought the same when Lynes faced Witter.

Feel guilty saying this but i think Lynes wanted out, i am probably being out of order questioning his pullout but even Paul Cook seemed surprised in the interview afterwards. The way the interview started i thought Cook was nudging towards saying he couldn't see anything wrong but he came back saying Lynes was really red. Looking at the replay of when the fight was stopped Lynes didn't look very red to me, again i am not trying to question his intergrity but even when he was seriously heaving to be sick nothing happened.
Anyway good win for Daws, i backed Lynes over the distance but Daws although raw looked fit and strong and deserved his win, Lynes tactics were all wrong though. Thirlwall-Smillie was a real up and downer, great fight

Both the daws and thirlwall fights were v.entertaining. Its shame daws cant punch to save his life - he really needs to learn how to get his full weight behind the shots instead of throwing arm punches - his actual punches seemed to have no effect on lynes. Having said that his workrate is tremendous and hey who am I to complain he won me 900 SQUID!! (9/2 at bet365.com)

Fabulous win and career best performance from Lenny.
I agreed with Jim Watt when he said he'd never seen Lynes so mentally frustrated. I've been watching Colin since his amareur days and he usually has a cool head, but with Daws he just keeps on letting the punches go until you crack.
Fair play to Lynes for the effort he did put in as it contributed to a very entertaining fight. Paul Cooke's honest comments afterwards were appreciated too.
I've always thought Lenny can be a British champion and nothing I saw the other night makes me doubt that. Next stop... Nigel Wight

I think Lynes was stictched up a bit myself. Firstly why should he be fighting an eliminator? I thought the highest ranked fighters fought for the titles? Obviously take Hatton and Witter out of the equation and Lynes is ranked third. Then add to it he only had 10 days notice whereas Daws had 2 months. I'm surprized so many people had Daws ahead. I had it 6-3 to Lynes like Johnny Nelson did. Daws certainly wasn't 4 up like the ref had him. A Henessey figher on a Henessey show isn't gonna lose! Correct me id I'm wrong but wasn't he lined up to fight someone else? I also heard that Lynes was apparently very ill prior to the fight but he couldn't pull out.
Anyway I hope a fully fit Lynes comes back and shows people how good he is and hopefully gets the title he deserves.

TheGoods - feel for you mate. Shit like that has happened to me loads in the past. I'm firmly in the "You couldn't make that up" school of betting history. I'd love to tell you some of them but I've deliberately wiped them from my memory otherwise I'd go mad.
Ottke-Reid was one which, in a way, was even worse because it was bent rather than something crazy happening.
However, should any of you fancy a wager on Daws-Wright, I'm with the champ.

I agree Ian, i think Wright will be a bit too smooth and classy for Daws. You were backing Wright when you said "The Champ" weren't you
