I think Hopkins out points Carter rather easily. Carter could punch, but other than that there wasn't much to him. He got very lucky catching Griffith early, but he lost in nearly every fight where he stepped up in class. While I don't think Hopkins is a top ten middleweight, Carter is not even a top 100 middleweight.

Way overhyped...he was not even 1/4 the fighter that the film tries to portray him to be! One of the saddest of moments, well not actually sad, just further evidence of how silly the alphabet orgs are was when the gave Carter an honorary world title. If there was ever anyone who did not deserve such an honor...it was Rubin Carter because he was as far away from being a true champion as was Jorge Luis Gonzalez!

Joey Giardello was pissed as hell at the portrayal of Carter kicking the shit out of him and getting robbed by the judges. f.....n hollywood. anyway Ruben was real dangerous early in a fight but he slowed in the middle rounds. If he couldnt get his opponent out of there early he had problems ...usally. He did have a nice win over George Benton over 10 rounds. I see Hopkins by U. D over 12. I dont see Carter banging Hopkins out of there early.

No. Once Carter got out of jail, he met Bob Dylan. According to people who were present at the meeting, the two spoke privately, and Dylan walked away looking whiter than a hospital sheet. He hasn't sung the song since.

What else happened? Did Dylan find out some stuff on Carter as a bad perosn or did Carter tell Dylan not to sing the fight. By the way its a good song.

Hey, side-stuff aside, Carter was a helluva fighter in arguably the deepest middleweight pool EVER. He not only good punch, but was incredibly strong, awesome stamina, and good skills. At his best he would easily be the best middleweight Hopkins ever fought besides Jones Jr . . . .

That being said, I think Hopkins wins a close points decision.

Have you seen Carter fight? Strong jab, absolutely stunning combinations, good feinter.

You don't beat Holly Mims, Jimmy Ellis, and Georgie Benton if you don't have skills along with power.

He wasn't a Robinson or Giardello in the skills department, and that's why he didn't become champ in that era.

But he was a class above Antwon Echols, Robert Allen, or William Joppy.
