i see it was ezzard charles vs rocky marciano II

im puzzled by that because rocky marciano vs ezzard charles I was defintley a better fight. it was a non stop gruelling 15 rounder and was close. i dont see how it didnt get fight of the year?? outside of the freak cut, rocky won every round in the charles rematch and it was one sided. does anyone know why the 2nd fight got fight of the year over the first fight?

It was purely because Marciano had his nose split by a Charles left hook and was on the verge on being stopped. Great drama.

Same happened in 1996 with The Ring. Holyfield-Tyson I won the Fight of the Year laurels, even though it was just a decent heavyweight scrap. Arturo Gatti and Wilson Rodriguez put on by far the best fight of the year, but all it got was an honorable mention. If it was not two huge names like Holyfield and Tyson, then it would not have even been a candidate for Fight of the Year.
