I'm really looking forward to this one tonight however I feel Earl might get stopped. Romanov is decent and has a bit of a dig on him but has been inactive. Should be a good one! Romanov TKO in about 8 or 9 I think.

Yeah, very tough fight for Earl, but also a fight he has a chance of winning. Must not get too involved in exchanges with the heavy handed Romanov, but stick and move the whole way. Graham has showed he can come back from being hurt to win and that might just prove the difference between a win and stoppage loss.

I'll go with Earl to surprise a few people.

Somewhere that the fight may be listened live on radio, or read round by round notes????

Romanov is very good and I pick him to ko Earl in about 10... my only worry about Yuri is the inactivity, ....why hasn't he fought for so long??...

Even a ring-rusty Romanov should have enough to beat Earl, but it should be a decent scrap while it lasts. You have to give Earl some credit for his toughness and for getting as far as he has with relatively limited gifts, but he definitely has it all to do tonight, and I can only really see him ending the fight on his back - probably somewhere around the 8th.

I go with Romanov on this one - Earl hasnt the class and Romanov has heavy hands which should see him take Earl out in 6 or 7 - Thats with ring rust much earlier without - Good bout in prospect Earl will be no walkover as he is tough and determined

I think Earl is a defeat waiting to happen, quick time.

I can't help but feel the Maloney's know something we don't, re Romanov. Because on paper, you've got to tip the Belarussian. Earl has, to me, looked ready to go for a while. If the Romanov that dismantled Vanzie shows up, Earl is in big trouble. But will we get that Romanov?

Earl won 116 - 114 but I scored it a draw myself.

Gave Romanov the 3rd, 7th and last 4 rounds.

I put some money on Earl and a draw. Bloody hell. 115-115 would have been nice.

I wasn't scoring the rounds but i felt it was wider than that.

Earl really should be more popular. His heart and fitness have taken him much further than his talent alone ever could. He never stopped throwing or marching forward which made for a very entertaining fight.

His Vanzie wins leave a bad taste in the mouth but that's not his fault.

I can't warm to him for some reason, i guess i'm not alone.

Very good fight, a lot of heart from both fighters. Good win for Earl, I gave it to him by a point, I think he was the correct winner and has plenty to build on with a European title shot.

I still can't get his slip up to Ricky Burns out of my mind when I think of Earl, but could of been down to not taking Burns the way he should of and it could of made him stronger for the future. Time will tell, I think Burn's will be out of his depth with Alex Arthur though. With his unbeaten record and a win over Earl, I think they should of developed Ricky more before letting him loose on the European title etc.

Excellent fight. The ring rust of Romanov certainly showed. He only really got into the swing of things in the last 4 rounds.
Lets give some long overdue credit to Graham Earl though. The guy is one tough son of a gun. He took some devestating shots from Romanov and stayed upright and fought back everytime. Earl really seemed to discourage Romanov with his constant aggression and refusal to relent when hurt. I also thought the body punching by both fighters was top notch.
For me Earl was worth the 116-114 win and Romanov's body language at the end and to be honest in between most of the later rounds indicated a beaten fighter. What I was surprised about was that in an international contest over 12 rounds an English referee was the sole judge. Though I agree with the decision it could have caused serious problems.
In his last 2 fights Earl has at times looked on the brink of disaster but has come back well and the entertainment value has been at the top level. However Earl is starting to look very vulnerable from about the 5th round onwards in fights. He can maybe take the European belt but can forget it at World level. The likes of Juan Diaz, Lavka Sim, Julio Diaz , Zaher Raheem and of course Corralles/Castillo would sweep Earl aside and I don't know if I'd like to see that.
A good money making matchup for me would be Earl-Gomez for the British and Commonwealth belts. Both guys don't have much left and could go out with a bang.

Is Earl the new Sven Otke? I had this 1 to Romanov, the last 4 rounds and I gave him 3-4 earlier rounds (no way does Earl win 7 of the first 8). Yes Earl threw twice as many punches - Romanovs were so much harder and the actual connected punches were similar. This makes 3 gifts in my book to Earl in his 3 biggest fights alongside the 2 Vanzie gifts.

Earl did suprise me and put in a great performance - tons of heart/stamina/workrate - AN AMAZING CHIN alongside continual fast combinations. He still lost on my card.

This was a great fight I think Romanov deserves a rematch but he won't get 1.

On another note is Romanov really Kostya Tyuzu in disguise?

Bloody hell what does Graham Earl have to do to please some of you. He was a real British bulldog in there tonight.

Kept Romanov on the back foot by constantly coming forward and took the best Romanov could throw at him, I scored it 116-114 the same as referee Davies from ringside.

Romanov ran out of steam and said that he would have stopped Earl in the 9th but for that.

But take nothing away from Graham, Romanov is a class operator and Earl beat him and beat him fairly tonight, not controversy some reporters had Earl 8 rounds up!!

Earl won a gift decision tonight? Sorry but we were watching completely different fights. If I was being kind I would give Romanov the draw but the fact is I thought Earl won it and didn't hear of anyone disputing it until now. Sure if Romanov had been more active I think he would have taken Graham Earl but Earl did superbly well in my opinion especially as he looks really shop worn compared to the fighter who destroyed Steve Murray in 2 a few years back.

The first 8rounds were mainly pretty close - NO WAY EARL WINS MORE THAN 6 of them - yes Earl threw more pitter patter shots but Ramanov threw HUGE shots back and landed far far better quality shots.

I had it level after the first 4, had Ramanov winning a couple of other rounds, and the last 4. The first 8 were tightish rounds - Ramanov threw the better shots Earl through more shots. The last 4 can't be argued about - big Ramanov rounds (Earl was nearly going from 9-11).

I don't like fighters who live off gifts - Earl got 2 HUGE gifts from Vanzie (meaning he isn't the real British/Comonwealth Champ) and imo a gift tonight. You have to KO Earl to win - hes a textbook hometown fighter who lives off hometown decisions - he seems to pull crowds and be worth a few bob. The commentators were biased too and need to learn the difference between punches that hit gloves and punches that land and punches that knock the head back.

Gutted!! I've always been a big fan of Romanovs, and I criticised Earl for pulling out last time.
I must take back. Sorry for what I said, Earl really did grind out a tough performance to win.

However

That was NOT The Romanov of old. Ring rust definitely played a big part in that. Give Romanov a rematch, and see a different outcome IMO. He didn't look half the fighter that destroyed Vanzie.
I was disappointed to see Romanov dropping his hands too, as one of the factors I admired about him was his 'no bullshit' style!

I taped the fight and haven't watched it yet, but i caught the highlights in the pub just before the decision and my initial thought was that Earl had lost because most of the clips showed Earl getting clocked with right hands, but Earl got it. I'll have to have a look myself.

I thought it was a world class display last night, Earl had to come through some tough patches, but didn't panic and won the desicion

I scored it a draw but happy with the result. One thing I have to say, Earl was unbelievable last night I never thought he had a performance like that in him. I think with a warm up fight first Romanov would probably have beaten him but its happened now. I'd like to see a rematch if Earl wins the European title as it was a great scrap.

I have always been a critic of Earl's but last night he proved me wrong and i take my hat off to him, his tactics were spot on and i thought Johnny Eames in his corner kept his mind on the job throughout with good cornerwork. I think Romanov became frustrated with Earl's style and the ring rust did play a part as he tired and only fought in spurts as the fight progressed. What spurts they were though! Classy shots and single punches, i get the feeling a more active Romanov would have put together the shots to have Earl in some trouble.

But it's all ifs, buts and maybes, fantastic display from Earl and Romanov knew at the end the better man had won, i didn't score the fight but i think Earl was well worthy of the result.

And yes Romanov did remind me of Kostya Tszyu a bit! Probably the hair. He looked a bit like Wlad Klitschko in the face i thought when he was waiting to come out...maybe i was drunk though I fell asleep during round 2 of the Moore fight and woke up right at the end credits
