Anyone else think this is way closer than the ITV people think?

Yep, loads of bias...didn't Duke say don't count our chickens, when talking about Jennings in the lead

I don't know who won the fight but Muttley has not disgraced himself. His stamina went a bit mid fight but i think it is way closer than the ITV commentators think! Waiting for the scores. And the new.....?

I have it Jennings by 2, wanted Muttley to win though.

Rawling is amazed, i don't see the problem?? Muttley's body punching and left hooks were solid all night. Jennings was all workrate but not a great deal of substance.

didn't think he did enough to grab the belt, but fair play to him...he's obviously done it the hard way

I think that should of went to Jennings.

I don't think Muttley had that won, personally. And that seems to be the majority of opinion on boxing forums I have looked on.

I thought maybe Jennings by 1 or 2 points but i was annoyed by the commentary. Starting to get fed up of McKenzie, he used to be amusing but now he's just shit.
Good interview with Muttley...he talks like me

Good to hear them keep telling us about the best football team in the country. Boing Boing.

Sorry guys, thats two fights I have been on the fence - Ramanov and Earl and now this one. I scored it 6-6 rounds even, a draw.
Goodish fight, but a little bit dissapointed in both, Mutley was a little slower and one paced than how I remember him in his low key fights on Sky - and he did look tired in the middle rounds, but got a good second wind.
Michael Jennings was poor, as he said - "I'm fighting crap", bad night in the office. I don't know enough about Mutley to know if he can fight better.
So in that respect, I wanted Jennings to get the decision - because to be honest I would have tipped alot of Welters to beat both on this night - but for Jennings I KNOW it was a bad night, don't know if it was for Mutley.
Sorry for the negative sounding post, well done to Mutley - he also showed some bottle because it looked like he was going to be completely spent by the 8th.

I agree with that last part Stu, i was starting to think my Jennings TKO8 prediction was coming true at that point but Muttley seemed to find a second wind. Doubt he has more to offer and not sure how much longer he reigns for, Jennings would probably take the belt back in a rematch. Jennings No. 1 WBO ranking is very mystifying, can you imagine him going in with Margarito on this showing?! Ouch :(

I had it to Jennings by 2. Though not a robbery or anything. Muttley won the last 4 in my estimations. I think McKenzie had two of those rounds even.
I think Michael let himself down and when he commented at the end of the 11th 'I'm boxing shit' it seemed to underline that. He seemed to be pressing everything and as the fight went on his accuracy became pretty poor.
Muttley looked out of his depth over the first half to me. Really layed back with a good stance but no urgency or spark. Indeed his physique and stance reminded me of fellow welterweight Kermitt Cintron. Anytime he landed a decent shot he seemed to stand back and admire it. He was NOT the supposed devestating puncher he was made out to be. He landed some point blank shots and never really ever shook Jennings up that much. Muttley was also far too left hook happy. I mean he largely neglected the jab and his right hand seemed non existant for large patches. Credit to him though as he took advantage of Jennings lull in the later rounds and picked up the pressure. At the end I thought he was lucky but wouldn't deny him it. I don't think he'll last long at the top and would pick Jennings to be bussier and to out hustle him in a rematch.
All in all I was not too blown away by this fight. Absorbing to an extent but I don't think that either guy has a look in at World or even European level.

I didn't score it, recoreded it so will have a closer look, was in nodding off when I watched it a bit.
Overall impression was that Muttley didn't do enough in the majority of rounds to win it. Wouldn't call it a robbery, but I think a lot of Jennings work was being ignored.
Hughed obviously saw the scorecards, because you could hear Mutley say 'shit' when the 11th break came.
What was bizzare was that Mutley seemed to have loads of handspeed but rarely used it, he threw some really nice combinations to the body which had Jennings wilting a bit, but didn't or couldn't sustain it.
Jennings should be thankful that any talk of a title shot came his way, he is nowhere near world level yet, and he would have been eaten alive by Margarito.
I've not followed Mutley much before, I know he's got some fans because I hear him talked about a fair bit, but he seems like maybe he has some stamina problems maybe, because when he did let the hands go for bursts, he looked very good.

Who would be the better 2nd time around if a re-match is arranged?
I watched the fight with the wife , so had the commentary on, and as you all know, if you listen to that it can sway your opinion without you realising.
Jennings can and will come back, but this has only highlighted he is British level and no way world class, there is no disgrace in that, most boxers would love to have the talent to get to the top domestically.
Muttley spoke after the fight exactly has he fought , relaxed and hardly concerned.
If his people can inject some fire into him he could really be dangerous because when he chose to let his hands go they really went some, and if this could be done for the re-match I’d see him stopping an on form Jennings .
Big respect for both fighters though, for how they did during the fight and in the interview after also.

I know it won't happen, but I would love to see Vincent get a crack at Mutley next. Jimmy is a big strong Welter with a good work rate, he could outwork Mutley.

Only saw the last few rounds after staggering in from the boozer, but I was surprised at how ineffective Jennings' high workrate was too - never seemed to find his range, even in the later rounds. If Muttley had some speed of foot to go with his deceptively quick hands, he'd be a real scary offensive force - some of those left hooks round the guard were blindingly quick. Nonetheless, Jennings was clearly the man with the overall skills, he just couldn't seem to time anything with precision or catch Muttley with enough bar that flicking jab. (I won't comment on the outcome, I didn't see enough of it.)

Looked an entirely fair decision. Two votes against one indicates the close nature of the contest and it boiled down to what you prefer. At least McGuigan kept some perspective when speaking at the end of the show.
I also thought Jennings' punches were often ineffective and seemed to be trying to land his own shots but already trying to avoid Mutley's counters and thus falling short of the target. Too much spoiling at times from Michael that the referee should have been stricter with. Close fight, and the decision wasn't at all surprising or unfair in my book.
Talk of Mutley against Vincent would be an attractive voluntary defence in the Midlands and why not Darren McDermott defending his Midland's Area middleweight title against Wayne Elcock as chief support ? They all sell plenty of tickets and it could be a cracking night.

That would be a great show Butch and a real boost for the Midlands Boxing scene. Great that Muttley has won the title and i don't think the decision was too bad, depends what you liked.

Thought it was a good decision. Nice to see the judges not be swayed by a guy throwing alot of punches, and landing nothing of any consequence.

Chuffed for Muttley and Errol - great victory for Midlands boxing. Muttley has toiled away on small hall shows for years in the West Mids and is finally now getting some recognition.
Jennings' biggest mistake was taking the fight to Muttley - it gave his a chance to use his couter punching skills. I thought the West Brom man's heavier hands and more eye catching clean shots won the day. His fitness was good IMO - I thought he looked out of gas by the 8th but then his second wind kicked in and he swept the closing rounds.
I just hope he can defend his title somewhere in Brum/Black Country. Good on ya Lee!
