No. He was caught with a damaging punch and couldn't regain his bearings. Similar to Patterson-Johansson, the first one. Happens to the best of them.

The thing is ,the authorities in Chicago sure thought he did cuz it killed Boxing in Illinois for 26 years.

because people will say "I saw the film and he hit gans with a legit punch which buckled gans knees and then mcgovern finished him"


it seems a lot of people think from the film, that it was a legite KO

The unedited version of the film clearly shows Gans going down from a punch in the first round that loops around the back of his head and misses completely. It was a fake. No doubt about it in my mind.
