Off topic- England Manager

Who do you want as next England manager?
Gus Hiddink is looking like one of the favourites, personally I'd like to see an Englishman in charge, just feel and england side should be England all the way through.
So i'd go for Big Sam Allerdyce, he's proven he can handle ego's and has done an impressive job at Bolton.

Anyone but Allardyce. I can't stand the bloke.
I know there's going to be big talk that it should be an Englishman this time, but if Hiddink is the best man for the job, I say let him have it. None of the English candidates really jump out at the moment, but I like the idea of Stuart Pearce being involved in the future. It's too early for him yet though.

Holland have done it with Van Bastern and Germany with Jurgen, I think the timing is perfect for Pearce. You can already tell he isn't just another Keegan

Yeah , the England job is far different than running a club, you don't get involved as much , As England manager you pick who you want , can surround yourself with the best coaches, motivation is a big part of it with the players.
I always felt Ericsson let us down in the motivation part, when we were 2-1 down to Brazil he just sat there as if he'd froze with the moment.
Of course the players should be able to cope with being a goal down as well and get thereselves back in it, but sometimes they do look towards the touchline for inspiration.
As for the England manager being english, i feel this should apply right the way through international football, all countries run by a national manager from there home country.

I think Pearce has all the makings of a future england manager. I don't know whether the time is ripe now or not, but he looks to have more tactical nouse already than the emotionally unstable Keegan ever had. Kevin Keegan is a man who lives and breathes football, but was too easily rattled and prone to emotional breakdowns.
Pearce would command incredible levels of respect from other England players, is young and fit by managerial standards, played at the highest levels, has tremendous strength of will, and knows what it is like to play in a world cup. He's got a lot of the qualities of a young Bobby Robson.

My Dad's a Boltoner, and I've been long-roped into being a Trotter.
IMO Allardyce and Bolton are excellent together. Obviously we wouldn't want Sam to leave (ie. fornicate off Newcastle.)
That aside though, I don't actually think Sam would suit being England manager. I think he has done so well because he has been able to build a squad to suit (albeit on a pisspoor budget) whilst with England he has to lump whatever players he has (to a significant extent) whether he likes them and their style or not.
Given what's just happened up here, I sympathise with wanting an English manager, although I actually think Rikjaard would be the best of the apparent candidates otherwise.

I met Pearce at the last Hatton fight, nice bloke, and i called him "Sir"
If he told me to jump i would, he just seems to command respect

For me, England has definitely the best players in Europe. So the team needs a guy who forms a team with heart and spirit and lives for it. So it should be a young and motivated Englishman. The FA should throw out Erikson immediately. With a new coach England has a chance to win the title. but not with Eriksson. How could he now motivate a team when everybody knows that he will go, no matter what would happen. Regarding the all-in-all-quality England has the best midfield in the world. After Shilton there is a now a good goalkeeper. the defense and the offense are excellent. I am serious. You have the chance to win the title and beat Brasil. The actual german team hasn´t half the class......

Give it Stuart Pearce, i know he's lacking experince but take the risk.
I think Pearce would have the players respect, i personally consider Pearce an absolute Legend for English football.
I could imagine Pearce in the changing rooms before a match getting the players motivated, yelling COME ON, COME ON.
When i watch England i feel they play with no spirit, give Pearce the job & that spirit will come along.

For England's WC chances, I think Sven should leave now and Bobby Robson take charge till the end of the world cup.
Has to be Big Sam though realistically, I would like to see Glenn Hoddle in the running, did a credible job and I personally thought his sacking reason was rediculous (look Sven's performances off the field).
However, my pick for "foreign" manager would be Mark Hughes. Hinted that he wants it when he said the next manager should "be at least British" - did wanders with limited resourses with Wales and doing a fan blooming tastic job at Rovers - plus is hard (would favour him over psycho in a punch up).

I know Chelsea wouldnt have it, but Jose Mourinho would make England World Champions. That bloke is different class.
The problem with England (and Eriksson has found this to be a huge conundrum) is that there are some really good players who are similar to each other, play in similar positions and effectively tread on each others toes (ie Beckham, Gerrard and Lampard). The result is that when these players play together, they often give largely ineffective performances, or at least performances that dont really compare to their club form.
The fuk-up begins when Eriksson or whoever tries to find a formation to accomodate these players. Mourinho does the opposite. He starts with a formation that he thinks will best get him the results. He then picks the best players to work that formation and doesnt just pick players because of reputation. Remember Dunga helped Brazil pick up the 1994 World Cup? Im sure there were 100 more skillful and dazzling Brazilians about then him, but he fit the system (I appreciate the selection of Dunga had fuk-all to do with Mourinho - but its along the same lines of what Mourinho's team selection and success is about).

I'm suprised Alex Fergusons never been linked with the job, sure hes a Scot, but hes an adopted Englishman, hes been 1 of English footballs greats over the last 20years. He knows the players, the English game (Erikson doesnt have a clue about) and the culture and hes leagues above any current English manager and he demands respect.
I'm not a Man U fan but Fergusons the best 'foreign' choice but no we want another foreigner who doesnt understand the English game

Ferguson would never take the job, I think he's mentioned that in the past. And can you imagine the friction between captain and manager if he did take it right now? Not that I think Beckham deserves the treatment Sven has allowed him.
Mark Hughes is another no-no. He's doing a good job with Blackburn, but his tenure as Wales manager is massively overrated, I'm sorry. They were a 4th in a group of 7 team when he took over, and they were a 4th out of 7 team when he left. His record is based upon one win over a poor Italian team, his results after that were the same as every other Welsh manger in my time. John Toshack is being crucified for telling the truth as far as that team is concerned.
I want an Englishman managing England myself. But just because Eriksson has fucked up (and his failings were evident a good 3 years ago) doesn't mean the job should be given to an Alladyce or a Curbishley just because they're English. Like a few here, I'd love to see Pearce get the job. But he himself has said it's too soon. I was in favour of Bobby Robson getting the shout when Keegan walked, with a younger man alongside him, but it wasn't to be. England, right now, have the most talented set of players I've seen in almost 3 decades of heartache watching the national team. I just hope we can get the right man for the job. It's easy to say you want a 'heart on the sleeve, 3 lions up and at 'em' manager, all passion and shouting, but does that work anymore? Again, if Hiddink is the best man for the job, let him do it. I don't see any Chelsea fans moaning that Mourinho is Portugese. And as a Liverpool fan, I'm happy with a Spainiard taking charge of my team, because right now, he's getting the thing that matters most: Results.

Jack Charlton once asked Ramsay why he had picked him to play for England, before their world cup win, saying that there were plenty of other better players around at the time than him, and that he was nowhere near as good as his brother bobby.
Alf's reply was 'Yes, Jackie, but my job as manager is to pick the best team, not the best players.'
Something Erikkson has clearly never grasped. He's had an abundance of riches at his disposal but has never turned them into a team who could beat all comers.
When England went behind to Brazil after that frankly spawny free kick of Ronaldinho's, the heads went down
I will be glad when Beckham finally retires from international football, the old 'pass it to Beckham on the right and wait for the cross' routine is so fornicating predictable and stifles the more creative players like Gerrard and Rooney from getting their mojo on.
Beckham should NEVER have been captain, he's far too much of a fornicating ponce, and he hasn't got the physical or mental presence to command a team, especially an england squad. Erikkson picked him because he saw Beckham as a talisman, but the truth is Beckham is an extremely overrated player. Gerrard passes the ball just as well as beckham, but can also run with the ball and score goals. Just because Beckham very occasionally scores an impressive free kick or curls in a nice ball from the right is not reason enough to have him in the squad.

I've mentioned that quote myself, James. And it's so, so true. Sadly, Eriksson doesn't realise that. Euro 2004 was the prime example: Beckham was never off the pitch, despite the fact that he was palpably unfit. With Sven it's Square pegs, and the big round hole of Englands midfield.
The blame can be shared, however. It was Peter Taylor (then U21 manager) who gave Beckham the armband, for the game against Italy, on the basis that Beckham wouldn't be dropped. Beckham is no natural leader of men on the pitch. He loves the celebrity status that armband brings, and he's milked it for every penny. Gerrard and Terry are the two guys that could lift a team in the way that a true captain should. But there's no chance of them getting the opportunity.
And for anyone who thinks the role of captain is unimportant, I suggest you look at Martin Johnson. You might dismiss Rugby, but he was the difference between World Champions and 4 years of Aussie bragging. Any team, no matter how good, always has a focal point.

As long as Hiddink isnt asking too much for wages, then it sounds like a more or less done deal.

Curbishley or Pearce for me.
I like BIG Sam, but hes not known for sexy football, which is what England should be playing with our superstars.
Hiddink can fornicate off (I want an Englishman in charge this time)
(Alex Ferguson has been linked with the job in the past, but hes said he could never lead England out against Scotland, so he wouldn't take it)

Mourinho is egoistic human crap and gives a fornicate on every country in the world. he is only working for himself and would get killed by some english supporters sometimes....... I wonder why this hasn´t happened yet.

Don't care about nationality as long as we are successful. If I could choose anyone in the world it would be Capello. I don't think he'd take the job and I don' think they'll take a non-English manager. If we do go foreign again then we need a latin manager and not a Northern European. We should get someone who brings a different outlook.
If we go with an English manager then in terms of achievement it's got to be Allardyce or Curbishley. The problem is neither of them have won a major trophy and neither of them would be in the running for the jobs at Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea. As much as I respect these 2 the FA would be appointing a manager that the top clubs consider to be tier 2 candidates at best.
I don't care what they do off the pitch it's the won/loss record that counts.

Whoever is put in charge the papers will be trying to drag any piece of dirt on them into the public eye, Ericsson was a fool when it came to the press, he thought he was above them and they couldn't touch him.
Just a thought why does Ericsson have to take his missus to these games, shouldn't he have his fellow england people around him to ask them questions during a game. Ericsson gets £4,000,000 a year to run England, not a bad job.
