Love picking boxing fans' brains on "What if?" matchups. So, that being said, how about this one. A prime Tapia vs Khaosai Galaxy. Galaxy draws criticism from some circles for never leaving Japan, but by many accounts he was absolutely devastating. Could Tapia, at his best, have beaten him?

Hey there GForce -

At JBW....K. Galaxy would have been too much for Tapia....Tapia was a great boxer but he wouldn't have been able to keep Galaxy off him over the course of a full fight ....nor did he have the power to hurt Galaxy...

Galaxy would wear him down and stop him between the 8-11rounds....or win a close but deserved UD -

Thailand.
Also it should be noted that Galaxy did fight outside of Thailand...he defended his title in Japan a couple times.....he went on the road and beat an undefeated Israel Contreras in Curacao............he defended his title in Korea (once or twice)....and in Indonesia.

But the other reality is his biggest money fights were in "Asia" and specifically in Thailand......so like any American fighter....he would choose to fight where he could make his most money...

I thought I had seen you post here while I browsed...figured it was time to sign up :)

Your description is kind of what I figured based on what I've been able to read on Galaxy since, as we've discussed, I didn't know too much about him until recently. You say he wouldn't have been able to keep Galaxy off of him for a full fight, but could he have done so long enough to force Galaxy to play catch-up and ultimately leave Tapia with a close decision?

Without a doubt that would have been Tapia fight plan....to build up a lead and try and ekk out a decision.

Galaxy's body work is underrated however (because he scored so many Ko's...people tend to remember those KO shots)....but what lead to many of those KO shots was his continous body work prior.

I see Tapia winning over the first 6 rounds but Galaxy would be doing damage over those 6 rounds to the body....and slowing Tapia up in the process...

Tapia was a game customer and would amke a fight of it but he isn't in Galaxy's class. The assessments above are about right. Galaxy KO or TKO some time after the 8th.

Ezzard and I have found something we agree on.
