Was i imagining things when i picked this fight on the predictions league this week? It is down as March 4th on the Boxrec schedule though.

Anyway down to the fight and i wouldn't be surprised if John does the business here. He is superfit and strong and quite relentless like Chi but with better technique. I saw him bounce back from a flash knockdown against Derrick Gainer and come back to outwork Gainer over 12. John rather impressively stopped Tommy Browne in 10 while Chi went the distance with Browne who is one tough customer. Chi did have Browne on the brink though a few times and like i said Browne is tough.

Marquez can be a bit dull but he is a slick effective boxer and has guts (see Pacquiao fight) so he must start favourite. However in the heat of battle in John's back garden (Indonesia) i dont think John outhustling Marquez to a decision would be totally out of the question.

this is where Marquez has to show some real urgency - in his fighting style and in his career. I hope he wins, so he can finally get on with being a great fighter & clean up the featherweight division. I hear John's a very good fighter, so this is probably the best place to start!

Thought it was weird, but yeah, I went for John UD - outhustle him like you said. The inactive Marquez's timing looked way off at points against Polo - who was himself coming off a war against Harrison. I was expecting Marquez to stop him and was disappointed in his performance, as I have been more than a few times in the past. Unless he catches John with a big shot I think John will walk through him, maybe by as much as 9 rounds to 3. John needs to be in true windmill mode, but I think he will be.

You guys are nuts about Chris John! Also, his timing looked off agaisnt Polo? HE WON EVERY SINGLE ROUND! Not bad for someone who's timing was way off, I guess, haha. JM Marquez will outpoint Chris John, by a wide margin.

While we're on the boxingpredictions theme, what happened to the Arce fight from last week? I swear I made a prediction for that fight, but I don't remember it being in the results.

Debate is great, but these sort of glass arguments get really tiresome to even bother responding too. Not saying there's anything wrong with your prediction - if Marquez comes in sharp he may well do as you say. I just think he won't because of relative inactivity, and also that he (increasingly) doesn't come to fight. Pacquaio had the right tactics, as did Polo. If John starts fast - which I think he will (he must) - then I don't think it's unconceivable that he starts banking rounds. Whether it works for the whole fight or not who knows, and I digress, back to the Marquez - Polo affair, and it's apparent

Either:

a) you never watched the fight and are going by the scores on boxrec.

b) you watched the fight with your ears, and are regurgitating whatever the commentators told you.

Marquez won f*ck all clearly up till the halfway point. It wasn't until the 7th, which if my memory is right is the one where he scored the knock down - a heavy knockdown that proved Polo's chin. It was only after that he really started to dominate. Many of the early rounds, particularly the first four or five, were close rounds that could have gone either way. I can't remember exactly - and I'm not going to check since like most Marquez fights it was relatively boring - but I'm sure Polo might have taken at least 2 or 3, at most 4 rounds. Whatever, the point is that a world class road warrior like Polo deserves respect and recognition for what really happened, not throwaway remarks regarding him as any old 'opponent'/pseudo-journeyman. He comes to fight, unlike Marquez and his prefered snitch and nick faux-sparring sessions (which I've had the horrible misfortune of seeing live in the past).

I agree, Chris John has a pretty good chance of springing the upset in this one. It'd be good to see him in against Chi if he does. Can't write Marquez off though, given his all-round skills.
