I liked london`s usual stlye, a lot like rock marceano, and looked very much like him as well, always in wonderful condition.and he still is now at around70..when you think ,if london had that topclass backing and training of Henry Coopers manager i am sure Brian would have won the world title against patterson,or johanson, when you think london never even had a sparring patner thoughout his career, what would this guy have done with good managment...???????????????

Fought like Marciano? Looked like Marciano?

Marciano was a good looking guy. Brian London was one of the ugliest fighters I've seen.

London fought with the old classic straight-up, straight punches, straight-forward British style. Marciano was a slugger slash swarmer, who ducked low underneath his opponent's punches and hooked hard to the body and head.

London didn't have the overall boxing skills or mobility to be the top British fighter of that era. He was strong, and he could hit, but he was limited in that he was predictable and lacked variety in his work.

I was a big fan of his at one stage because he showed a lot of heart in his fights, but Cooper was more than a match for him when it came to boxing.

He's getting him mixed up with "Eddie" in the Rocky Horror Picture Show. He likes fantasy does old pomfret viz his statement that London never had a sparring partner in his whole career.

Brian london had by far the best performances of all the british heavies against the americans, but had to take any fights because of money, unlike cooper, who was wrapped in coton wool, refuse to fight in the states, even when patterson offerd cooper a world title shot after the london -cooper 15 rounder,so london went over, and put up a cracking fight. He got fined £2,000 but his £20,000 purse was worth it..even thou pattersons was running away from machin, and folley at the time.
What is so wrong, when you read 1of coopers many biogaphie`s,cooper got the cheek to say about the Cooper-paterson fight ,after the 2nd ali fight,,---"at last i got Patterson".... he forgets to mention he hid away a few years before.but you should see the pictures of cooper being carried,FLAT OUT ,by 4 corner men, across the ring..against a fighter who many said could`nt punch!!!!!

Has anyone seen or know if film exists of the London- Johansson fight
in April 63? Ingo had ridiculed London pretty good prior to his fight with Patterson in May 59. I don't imagine he was singing the same song after
his fight with him.

Whos ever said that Patterson couldn't punch?. While you make some sane comments in other threads your views on Cooper are totally biased and in many cases inaccurate... you obviously have some sort of grudge against the guy........

Hi BIll,
I know that Brian london was being beaten on points up to the last round, but he knocked johanson out with over a minute left, and the bell was rung nearly a minute early, saving johanson, brian was robbed that night, because he had no manager or backup, because he managed and trained himself totally, but ingmar said after the fight,if london was that hard for me,what chance would i have against liston,or clay, and retired, even thou he was offered a massive amount of money to fight liston.
