Woods vs Jones in the works

seems like Roy's defection to Showtime has set this naff matchup into motion. Showtime want to offer Roy two fights in 2006, with Woods as his route back to a world title. Also, seems Showtime want Hatton, two reasons for being in talks with FA

Jones shouldnt be getting a title shot. :-?

But the fact that its against Clinton actually makes me think he'll win. :o

I'll be very disapointed if Woods gets Jones next, ok i know Roy beat Woods & Woods wants to get his own back on Roy but for gods sake Roy is no where near the fighter he was when he beat Clinton the first time.

Mind you i suppose Clinton will be makling some good money from the fight if it comes off.

I think its a good match for Woods. Having a win over Jones on his record will look good no matter how shot Jones is. Its a very winnable fight for Woods I cant see him losing to the current version of Jones to be honest.

It still stinks. Jones is shot to fornicate. I can kind of understand it as Jones is struggling to find a decent fight, but god it will be dull and if the worst happened and Jones somehow beat him, it would be disastrous.

NOOOOOOOO.

Although Woods would easily Ko him. 8)

Maybe a loss to Woods would finally show Roy how far he has slipped and he will retire.............hopefully .

Woods should be pushing for Tiozzo or Adamek.

another fight where Jones circles and spoils all the way through, against another natural counter puncher. Jones-Tarver 3 stunk like shit; so could this. woods is pretty good at using his strength to grind ppl down, and is a big bloke. Jones could be in for a very uncomfortable time.

Money talks and Woods will get far more for a Jones fight on Showtime than he would fighting those two.

"paperchamp" vs "washed out champ", great fight :TU:

they should make it a tournament with DM vs Johnson, winner of it all is the worst light heavy champ of all times......

Not sure I can understand the viewpoint that this is a poor match up.. Jones is still a biggish Light Heavyweight draw (as big as there is) and Woods needs a fight. It might not be the greatest spectacle, but aslong as Woods' pockets are lined heavily I'm sure he'll be delighted.

I am also not sure I understand why it would be such a crying shame if Jones wins (without having your British spectacles on). Surely, people want the best fighters to be the world champion... and if that means Jones beating Woods - then whats the issue.

I think the reason why people are annoyed at this match up is because they think Jones has a big chance (got his number psychology and the like) and if anything Woods has a better chance vs Tarver than Jones.

True but Jones is washed up and will be Ko'ed. Jones is usually with HBO though.

Would be better if he beat Adamek or Tiozzo though as Tarver's a fraud Erdei's the true linear. Would prove more beat the other title holders though.

He should at least Ko Tarver then if he wants respect as they know Jones is washed up although there is guys who'll believe in him like they did with Tyson.

Well to be fair Garay should be the 'true' linear holder - he beat the shit out of Erdei twice.

Tarvers the best Light HEavy with the best comp, Adameks beat a few good contenders but is heavilly overated

Jones still imo has the ability to outbox/outspeed Woods. Joens should also rematch Toney at HW - those are winnable for RJJ based purely on styles

Jones has left HBO, Showtime have offered him a 2 fight deal.

LMAO!

Toney would kill him at Hw.

What makes Tarver the best Light Heavy? Because HBo and the ring say so? Naaah.

Erdei, who beat Gonzalez, who beat DM, who beat Hill is. :TU:

Woods should go for unifying rater than fight Jones.

Did you see Garay-Erdei - Garay battered him for 12rounds twice. Erdeis own fans booed him, Erdeis a fraud hes the new Sven Otke and you want to call him the man  . Garays the real linear but DM was never undisputed because he never fought RJJ. DM wa a very overated LHW, RJJ would of ko'd him.

Tarver has the best comp at LHW, he'd murder Erdei

Did you see Jones-Toney 1? Jones did as he pleased, hes a very bad style for Toney who doesnt have HW power to worry RJJ or reach, speed or pressure to worry RJJ. If RJJs half the fighter he was he'd beat Toney at HW but Toney would beat most other HWs

RJJ would of won but he didn't fight him to make himself the proper linear. DM got stripped of two of his 3 unified titles.

Jones and Toney 1 was at Super Middleweight when Jones was in his prime when Toney was badly weight drained! Jones at HW only fought Ruiz and he's past it and washed up now since Tarver stopped him ,Toney would stop him now.

Someone on ESB had the nerve to say Prime Jones vs prime Tyson too!

Prime Jones-Prime Tyson is laughable (especially now), back around the Ruiz time there was an air of unbeatability around Jones though.

Toney-Jones now is 50-50 imo. I personally think Jones has a chance against Toney still, hes still faster, still works about as hard as toney.

DM/Erdei may have been linear, linear doesnt always mean best though, Shannon Briggs was linear when Lennox was in his prime and Holy Tyson were around

To say that Rj would have KOed Dm is ridiculous to say the least. Jones couldve won on points but thats it, whenever he fought tough true LHW's like Telsco or Del Valle, despite their lack of skill, he couldnt even put a dent in them.

DM KOing Roy on the other hand was a possibility, although I still owuld favour RJ on points.

I will agree with you that the Garay and Erdei fights can be argued, I remember them being somewhat controversial...will have to go back and look at the tapes for these ones for sure!

You're missing a huge piece of this puzzle. If Toney beats Rahman then he is also Middle to HW champ. There is no way in the world that the 2 Middle to HW champs cannot fight eachother. 1st thing Toney will do is call Roy's ass out in the center of the ring.

Very good point, and probably dead right.

Toney would beat Jones at Heavyweight. Jones has very little left right now. If he'd stayed at Heavy after beating Ruiz it might have been a different fight but he really shot himself to bits losing that 20+lbs of muscle.

Being the best doesn't make you champ.
