read on another board this is being worked on as we speak, anyone know anything about this? good move imo, beats a freitas/gatti fight anyway. Risk is comparable but the rewards are becoming the linear jr welter and welter champ simultaneously (sp?). Also sets up a MONSTEr fight and MONSTER share of the purse for a PBF showdown later this year.

Baldomir's playing off Ricky and Gatti to get a bigger purse.

Some bits and bobs to be sorted but all going well the fight should allegedly be announced on Thursday.

I'm glad Hatton is picking up the titles, so if he takes on Baldomir i'll be pleased. But there's no denying that without titles both Massua and Baldomir are not the type of fights Hatton should be involved in at this stage of his career. So, i just hope that, if he wins of course, he proves himself worthy by defending his titles against the best possible opponents.

Bloody hell never thought this fight would materialize

I'd be surprised to see this happen, I find it hard to believe Hatton would abandon his LW belts to step up and face Baldomir.

according to the mirror he's agreed to defend his ibf belt I think later in the year..so if true it looks like :

- Baldomir
- Rabah
- Mayweather???

foxwoods are willing to put up (allegedly) a massive ammount of money for this fight to happen.
The Baldomir fight is nothing like the Maussa one, Baldomir just beat Zab Judah over 12rounds!! Not a weight drained vivian harris who was shocking that night.
If this fight comes off it's a right coup for team hatton and will add more bargaining power to any future negotiations. A much stiffer test than Fretias and for the first time a physically bigger opponent.

So does that mean if he beats Baldomir he gives up the welterweight title and moves back down in weight, that would be ludicrous...

He could defend his Welter and Light welter belts (that's if he meets and beats Baldomir) simultaneuosly(sp?) , the only problem would be mandatories .

Hatton has welterweight title in sights
By Ron Lewis

RICKY HATTON is to attempt to become a two-weight world champion when he challenges Carlos Baldomir for the world welterweight title in the United States on May 13. The bout will take place at Foxwoods Casino Resort, in Connecticut, and is expected to be announced at a press conference on Thursday.
Hatton, who returned from a family holiday in Egypt at the weekend, had been expected to face either Naoufel Ben Rabah, a Tunisian-born Australian who is mandatory contender to his IBF light-welterweight title, or Acelino Freitas, the former WBO super-featherweight and lightweight champion from Brazil. Neither of those opponents would have been expected to have caused Hatton much difficulty, but stepping up in weight to challenge Baldomir provides a mouth-watering prospect.

Originally from Santa Fe, Argentina, but now living in Los Angeles, Baldomir was largely unheard of before he caused a huge upset by defeating Zab Judah in New York last month. Judah had come into the bout as WBC, WBA and IBF welterweight champion and had been expected to win easily, ahead of an April bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

However, the WBA and IBF have so far refused to recognise Baldomir, claiming he failed to pay them sanctioning fees for the bout. “My purse was only $100,000 (about £56,500),” Baldomir said after his win. “If I paid each of them the required 3 per cent, I would have come away with nothing.” It is likely to take a court case to decide which titles will be on the line in May.

While Mayweather, the WBC light-welterweight champion, has decided to go ahead with his bout against Judah in April, Baldomir, who had been expected to face Arturo Gatti, until the Canadian suffered a hand injury in a win over Thomas Damgaard last week, will now face Hatton.

It will mean that Hatton will have challenged for world titles in three successive bouts. He took the IBF light-welterweight title from Kostya Tszyu, the Australian, in Manchester last June and then added the WBA version of the title in November with a knockout of Carlos Maussa, of Colombia.

Should Hatton win the bout, he would become Britain’s fourth world welterweight champion. Ted “Kid” Lewis was champion during the First World War, John H. Stracey was champion in the Seventies and Lloyd Honeyghan in the Eighties. Hatton would relish joining that list of greats

It sure fits the Hatton calling card.

A two-division linear titleholder yet when you look at his resume you'll see Ray Oliviera and Carlos Maussa. LOL

It's SO Hatton.

Stepping up to fight an opponent who has fought at a weight division above for his whole career and who just beat the undisputed division champion who was due to fight (and really test) the p4p king next. Baldomir outboxed and outfoxed Zab Judah, he didnt score a fluke knockout or a hometown descision, he just beat "the man" at 147.

True as he wants the WBC 140 belt first as well.

No one's doubting Baldomir. He beat Judah, no ifs or buts, in his hometown. We can't really say the same about "the man" at lightwelter who refuses to fight Mayweather, the true #1 contender.

So your criticise Hatton for trying to fight Baldomir, yet its ok for Mayweather to fight a guy Baldomir has just beaten? Hmmmmmmmm.

Yes because 99% of people would pick Judah with ease in the rematch. Judah somply screwed up. PBF would be fighting Baldomir next but he wasn't acceptable as a PPV opponent. Judah is a harder fight for Hatton or PBF than Baldomir would be.

Most people are thinking Judah's done though.

Hatton would KO Judah and if Witter fought him now it would end in Witter Ko'ing him now.

Why isn't Baldomir PPV material when he just beat a so called PPV material fighter.

And Judah is acceptable PPV coming off that performance?

Judah was overrated, and I'd pick Baldomir in a return. He was nearly KO'd by him and dropped by Cory Spinks that is a serious lack of beard.

No shame being dropped/hurt by Tszyu, Spinks and Baldomir however.....

by don't call it a comeback
Is this a fight worth having?

A fight that could result in Hatton being the linear world champion and Ring champion at both 140 and 147 at the same time. Has that been done before in the modern era?

Hell, yes thats a fight worth having.

Most are stupid :TU: , did yo usee Judahs last 2 wins? Very impressive as was his first fight with Spinks which probably should of been scored to Judah, Judah can beat. And as for been kd'dd by Spinks - Spinks isnt that light hitting, Baldomir didnt kd Judah did he? Dont think so.

Theres good reason Hatton avoided Judah and fought Pederson/Vilches. Its fashionable to hate Judah but he has maybe the best speed/power combination in the game and great skills. Pity about his concentration and chin because he'd be P4P top2 otherwise

The networks want Mayweather-Judah not Mayweather-Baldomir, you have to go where the money is.
