Frazier handed out some heavy beatings himself, including breaking Chuvalos eyesocket.
ya that was devastating, chuvalo was going to go down soon if the ref didnt stop the fight.
Also you shouldn't forget the fact that Frazier was generally fighting fighters that were bigger than himself, while Marciano fought fighters that were his size or even smaller... when Frazier fought Heavies his own size like Quarry and Ellis he totally destroyed them.
good point
silkov, did u ever notice guys records after they fought rocky? these guys after fighting rocky were never the same again........check this out
rex layne- # 1 contender 34-1(27). after marciano fight, layne went 16-17 the rest of his career. he was never the same again. the beating at the hands of charles following the rocky fight didnt help. that one right hand that knocked out layne "sheered laynes front teeth off at the gums." so basically, rocky sent laynes teeth flying into the stands
harry kid mathews- after the devastating rocky KO loss, mathews would fade away never becoming a top contender again and drift into obscurity the next years
roland lastarza- after there 2nd fight, poor roland suffered so much damage he was never the same again. he went on after the marciano fight to lose 5 out of his next 9 fights. rocky officially ruined lastarza in there 2nd fight
joe louis- well louis wasnt going to go away until someone beat him and beat him good. he was the # 1 contender dying for the charles rematch and marciano retired joe
walcott- after one of the finest preformances of his career and it seemed as if father time would never catch up to joe, it finally did. entering the 2nd fight, walcott wasnt the same fighter. and felix boccicchio knew it, he saw fear in walcotts eyes entering the ring. this was a tyson-spinx all over again, and a petrefied walcott was knocked out in 2 minutes of the first round sending walcott into retirment. walcott backed up the whole 2 minutes deathly afraid of marcianos right hand. what happened to that aggressive feirce fearless warrior in the first fight? walcott got ruined by marciano
ezzard charles- well we all know the great preformance charles put up in the 1st fight. but charles took a horrible beating in that fight, and he was never the same again. he showed up 8 lb heavier in the rematch and looked slower and scared the whole fight. rocky gave charles a one sided beating in the rematch despite the freak cut. after those 2 fights, charles won only 13 out of his next 23 fights. he was officially ruined by rocky
don cockell- one of the toughest englishmen u can find. cockell promised his country he would bring back the championship. he came in at a very trim(for him) 205lb. he was fighting for his country that night and nothing was going to stop him. howerver, he waso outclassed from the start losing a one sided beating to rocky. cockell trook horrible punishment, but he took it because he was fighting for britains honor and he gave 110% and the british should be proud of 'our don'. poor don cockell was vomitting in the mid rounds between rounds he was taking such a bad body beating. cockell was never the same again retired soon after the rocky fight. rocky ruined cockell
carmine vingo- vingo was a highly touted prospect from new york and at 6'4 195lb over 80" reach and a powerful punch, he had the dimensions of a future heavyweight champ. this was a firpo-dempsey type battle that ended with 20 year old carmine vingo unconsious on the floor in the 6th round. vingo went into a coma and nearly died and for breif while, was paralysized from the waist down. vingo never was allowed to fight again. vingo was ruined by rocky.
lee savold- savold just 2 years ago scored a stunning upset over bruce woodcock to win the BBC heavyweight championship. however savold was 35 and on the downcline having recentley been knocked out by joe louis in a one sidded affair. rocky gave savold "the worst beating of savolds 17 years in boxing"-new york times and smashed savolds teeth into his gums. savold took such a bad beating, his liscense was suspended to prevent further injury. savold never fought again.
-those are just some of the many examples i could give
i mean to me when u ruin a guy like rocky does, thats destruction.
frazier i think ruined buster mathis. mathis was undefeated and was a skilled big man and gave joe one of the toughest fights of his career, and entering the 11th the fight was on even level. then joe smashed mathis out there with a short crunching left hook that left the big elephant doing a delayed reaction before crumbling 245lb into the ropes. mathis was just never the same again. jimmy ellis was another one that was ruined by frazier. he was never the same again
