Modern day Middleweights who could have K.O d Lamotta. Any?

I see the only modern day middleweights with a chance to stop KO\tko The Raging Bull are those who could throw and catch Jake with sharp heavy combinations over the course of many rounds. Taking him out with one shot would be tough. Hagler and Monzon are the only ones I can think of. Any others? Remember, its not only beating Jake, its stopping him. Its not only Lamottas chin that made him tough to K.O.,his defense was underated.

I'm a huge fan of both, but neither Hagler nor Monzon had true one punch knockout power. They were great punchers, but it would be accumulation that would do the job.
I would say Monzon has the best chance of all the middleweights to stop LaMotta. If LaMotta started getting careless, I hate to think what the terribly accurate Monzon would have done to him.

...bob satterfield (bob satterfield!!!!)..bounced punches off jake for the first few rounds until jake came on a knocked him through the ropes and stopped him. i repeat...bob satterfield. bounced.punches.off.jake...and actually put bumps on his head. bob satterfield.
i presume this anwers your question.

Not really, that reinforces the fact that Lamotta had a great chin. What modern day middleweight has the tools and style to stop him?

Well, I think that if Julian Jackson landed right he could knock anyone out in his weight range, though it would have to be a punch that LaMotta never seen coming, but Jackson is about the only fighter that I would give a chance of knocking LaMotta out with one shot. LaMotta's ability to take a punch was just incredible. He is without a doubt in the top five greatest chins ever and a good argument could be made that he had the best chin ever...though you would have to put others like Battling Nelson and Ad Wolgast right beside of him. Hagler's another one! He was hit by some of the hardest hitting fighters ever and rarely even blinked from a shot. There are very, very few fighters in history that could have a chance of stopping LaMotta with one shot, but honestly, at his best I don't see anyone stopping LaMotta with one shot, especially any of today's fighters...no one today even comes close!

Yes . The way I asked the question is a little confusing too, sorry about that. Its Hagler and Monzons combinations over the course of a fight that I feel might work. I dont think these guys would take him out with one shot either.Im in agreement that there might not be a modern day middle who could do it with one shot.

well perhaps some of the great middles can stop lamotta on his feet like sugar ray robinson did with combinations, but i cant see anyone keeping lamotta down for the count.
the only time lamotta was ever down was when he was well past his prime vs one of the hardest hitting light-H of that era danny nardico

LaMotta came into the Murphy bout way, way out of shape, plus he was pretty much at the end of the road in boxing and Murphy, who was one hell of a puncher himself, just put it all over LaMotta. Danny Nardico, another of the heavy-fisted kind, also put LaMotta down, but again it was at the end of LaMotta's career. I don't see Hagler and especially Monzon being able to stop Monzon. I think it would take someone who not only hit very hard, but also were very fast who might be able to land a hook that LaMotta never saw coming...Jackson, or possibly Roy Jones. I don't think Jackson could last long enough with LaMotta to score a lucky punch though. I think someone like Roy jones would have the best shot at stopping him.

how about McClellan? surely he would stand a better chance of landing on Jake that Jackson did?

..lamotta came into murphy I overweight.... didn't get put off his feet but didn't come out of his corner in a late round either. but..in murphyII lamotta came in about seven pounds lighter and took the hard hitting murphy's best shots and had murphy in real trouble at the end. ..and won a clear decision.
this one was on espenc recently...a couple of times....so if you get this channel watch for it to show up again....they repeat theit stuff a lot.
plus...this is a good example of how well jake could outjab a taller opponent....and the fact murphy was a southpaw didn't bother jake.

Nigel Benn is the hardest hitting middleweight I've ever seen, he hospitalised fighters with single shots in his first 10-20 fights. If he connected right with ANYBODY, the Benn of circa 87-88 (before he started using weights which slowed him down), they are going down and out.

Thanks, I watched that fight recently its a good brawl, murphy took alotta punches and kept on firing. Of course so did Jake. Impressive stamina also for both guys.

McClellan's left hook to the body KO'd 15 opponents in the 1st-round, if he landed that on LaMotta then I don't know if Jake could get back to his feet.

Murphy was a fun fighter to watch. He was of the "take 3 to land 1" ilk of fighters. Those face-first brawlers who it's hard to imagine them ever being in a bad, boring fight. Look at the fighters of that time compared to today's fighters. There is only a small percent of fighters today who would fit in that grouping. Of course Gatti, Jose Luis Castillo and Diego Corrales, Barrera, Morales and Pacquia, whereas the era of LaMotta was just loaded with fighters of that style. None were ever more exciting than Bob Satterfield, who you'll hear a few of us mention time and again.

Its nice to have a couple fighters around like Satterfield, You can usally count on it being him or the other guy getting K.O.d. Always fireworks.
