look at the video thing on the right and look at the mayweather video. the ESPN host and mayweather get in a argument. Basically ESPN host say mayweathers wasnt a champ at 140 and wont be either at 147.

That's funny, good to hear an interviewer speaking the truth to a boxer for once - though I can't imagine him speaking to Floyd like that if he were standing next to him in a bar...
no way ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

That is absolutely fantastic! I really enjoyed that, nice to hear the questions that you want being asked, but dissapointing for Mayweather to regress ot if you haven't fought you dont understand.

Theres a reason Tyuzu was a fractional champ - he didn't fight his mandatories for years, how long do you give someone before there no longer undisputed? Mayweathers a legit belt holder at 140, there wasn't an undisputed at 140 and that includes Hatton. But Hatton is of course linear.

did branco and gatti deserve to fight for a vacant belt? didn't the wbc make Tszyu their champion emeritus? either way being a belt holder at a weight and being the champion are different things and like the man said Floyd was never number 1 at 140 and by beating Judah he won't be number 1 at 147

how can floyd fight someone that doesnt want to fight him. hatton and his father has said they don't want the fight til the end of the year

Completely reasonable interview, stepping through the weights is fine to pick up the belts, but to really prove something you should beat the man in each division you pass through.

They were the top 2 contenders in the WBC, Gatti had done more upto that point than Hatton did before his win over Tyuzu. Gattis become somewhat underated he was a top fighter at 140. If Tyuzu doesnt fight for years hes not undisputed - Ali wasn't undisputed when he fought Holmes was he? Was Frazier not a champ until he fought Ali?

Good video. Kenny puts the truth to Mayweather and Floyd comes back with the old counter for fighters put on the spot by an interviewer, that you need to have boxed to have an opinion on boxing.

Yep, one of the weakest arguments around. By the same token, fighters shouldn't comment on articles as they are not professional writers.
It's odd how their argument only applies when someone says something they don't like, they are always eager to lap up any praise.

especially not if Floyd was surrounded by his usual squad of goons and goffers...

Yeah well, even if Floyd was on his jack I'm sure the interviewer would realise the error of his ways pretty damn quick
Besides, you could throw that accusation at most modern boxers - De La Hoya for instance.

de la hoya has fought virtually every big name available to him.

and he's unified titles in most of his divisions or attempted to.

None of his titles from jr light to welter were unified, he was just a belt holder, like Floyd.

he unified the wbo and ibf titles at lightweight and attempted to unify the wbc and ibf titles at welterweight.
he fought in 6 divisions and attempted to unify in 4 of em.

not bad going if u ask me.

Very good going BUT.....1st Hoya was a weight drainer Floyd is not a a weight drainer - so Floyds weight hopping is somewhat more impressive. Delahoya only fought twice at 130 - a division he held a WBO belt in, he didn't fight the top dogs from 135, he beat an old Charvez to be linear at 140 but didnt fight Zoo, then jumped straight to 147, he got a gift against an aging Pernell, although he fought most of the best he did this because he held the power in negotiations and fought them at the right times. He got gifts against Sturm, Sweet Pea, Quartley but was robbed of a couple 2. Floyds complete dominace is more impressive to myself and the supposed 'gift' he got against Castillo I scored 8-4 to Floyd the first and only time I watched it - it could possibly be 6-6 at a push(Castillo won the bigger rounds).

u can break down the facts and figures all u want. i was just going against warriors point of de la hoya not unifying and picking belts.
when u actually look at it he has unified in most divisions he's been in and fought most of the top fighters.
he comes back in may and is taking on a belt holder at 154. he then plans to fight either mayweather or winky. most people have those guys at 1 and 2 p4p.

That clip is brilliant. Wonder if this makes Mayweather more eager to make the fight with Hatton cause no doubt if he doesn't make it he will be hounded with doubts over Hatton being the true champ at 140. I notice he completely avoided discussing Hatton, didn't even try to say he made an offer to Hatton like he said with Baldomir.

True. Roy Jones would be a much more fitting analogy.

Nothing like the "Truth" thats Mayweather being told as it is
He has to fight Ricky Hatton, it will always boil down to that as long as both fighters remain unbeaten.
Credit to that guy for saying it as it is

Excellent points. Oscar was really a 140lb fighter in his early career, he was cheating the scales and entering the fray with big weight advantages, and fought a few over the hill guys. I will however credit him for taking on Quartey, Mosley, and Trinidad, especially Tito who history will remember as being an excellent welterweight champion. He was robbed of a victory over Tito and one over Shane, though the second fight against Shane was awful.
Oscar never truly settled that he was the best man at any weight, but in truth to do so in this day and age is no easy task, it took Hopkins nearly his whole career, and he only got a shot because King figured that Tito was going to annihilate him.
Oscar is a very good fighter, one of the best of his era, but Floyd has fought guys who outgunned him physically like Castillo and Corralles who both had big edges in punch power, and in Castillo's case physical strength and is moving up the weights by bulking up, rather than cutting weight early on.
Floyd technically is also vastly superior to Oscar who has gaping holes in his technique and has always been pretty easy to hit if you have good handspeed or timing.

Looks like Hatton has signed with Banner Promotions who have a TV deal with ESPN and are looking to do some big PPV's this year. I don't know if this was on the agenda when the reporter laid into Mayweather, announcing Ricky as the champ at 140.

brian kenney is newest valedictorian at the
jim gray school of media hacks who try to prove their manhood by arguing with pro fighters...
personally i think he did it to stir up some controversy, since he cannot hold a candle to previous host max kellerman, who got hired away by fox & kenney got bumped into the lead spot...kenney prefers other sports to boxing, but espn probably bumped him upstairs to save the money they would have to spend for a top-notch studio commentator!!
