Tiozzo-Erdei

I know this is not British related, but the Current Scene should really be called Stars & Stripes Consumer. so, does anyone know if this WBA/WBO light heavyweight unification is definitely on? i read that it'd be in France - seems that Universum aren't having any long term plans for Zsolt Erdei, if this is true!

i'm intrigued by this showdown and have been shouting out for it for a while. I wonder where a potential win would take Tiozzo? a fight with Mormeck?

Good fight, it's about time we got down to some decent fights at Light Heavyweight. I am actually goijg to tentatively back Erdei, he showed balls in that fight with Sahnoune and add that to the slick skills he showed versus Julio Gonzalez i think he can pull the job off.

That was one of the best fights of last year, Erdei vs Sahnoune. not to far behind Corrales-Castillo I, in my minority opinion. Erdei's so slick and precise, but if Sahnoune could push him to the limit I wonder what Fabrice would do...Tiozzo by knockout.

I don't know if the German fans have truly taken to Erdei. I think ppl expected him to dominate Garay and Sahnoune, after that superb showing vs Julio Gonzalez to take the WBO strap. maybe Zsolt has become expendable if the France rumour is true, I don't know

On that Feb 2005 night when Tiozzo hammered Michalczewski and Erdei edged Garay (rematch), it seemed this fight would happen.

As with Julio Gonzalez (who got lucky vs Michalczewski), Erdei can say "I want to avenge my idol!" - Again.

According to fight news it’s not happening.
Branco-Siaca for WBA title!
On September 12, 2005, the WBA granted light heavyweight champion Fabrice Tiozzo special permission to defend his title on December 5, 2005 against Paul Murdoch. The special permission granted to the Tiozzo was conditioned upon the winner fighting against the official challenger Silvio Branco in a period of no longer than 90 days. On November 24, 2005, Tiozzo's representatives sent a medical certificate stating that Tiozzo was injured and could not fight on December 5. By virtue of Tiozzo's unavailability, the WBA ordered an interim title between the #2 rated contender Silvio Branco from Italy and #3 rated contender Manny Siaca from Puerto Rico. Salvatore Cherchi's OPI 2000 hopes to stage this fight in Italy at the end of April.

nothing funny about it. didn't Julio get a gift decision vs Glen Johnson before getting outjabbed by Michalczewski, who did far cleaner work than Julio's weak light counters - as well?

i looked close at the fight & Michalczewski did enough to win 7-5 in rounds, imo. look at the politics behind it, set up amateur star Erdei's shortcut to the world stage

Acaries has said it's on, apparently.

Thing is, Branco-Siaca is an interim bout. meaning whoever wins faces the Tiozzo-Erdei winner.

Blue, just because theyre staging an interim match, doesnt mean that the real belt wont be put on the line at the same time (see Calzaghe-Veit).

And DM-Gonzo couldve gone either way, it was a close fight, I thought DM picked up the win or it was a draw. 8-4 Gonzo was not a good score IMO.

At any rate, Tiozzo is old and I think Erdei would do a number on him, but he's still got Cw power, so who knows. Im certainly looking forward to it...so did Acaries say its on?

one of the forums said Acaries said it was on - in France.

Tiozzo was in great shape for Michalczewski. I know, DM was old and everything, but I admire the way he got his weight back down and got his career back on track. i mean after losing his cruiser belt, this is comeback of the year material

sure, a boxer will bother him these days, but I think Fabrice will push Erdei much further than he likes to be pushed. can't wait to see this one, I'm excited

I hope that Adamek and Erdei try to pick up another title in this shit division (old gentleman´s league) this year and fight for the 4 titles next year. all other champs and pseudo greats like Tarver or Johnson are a joke. Maybe Calzaghe can bring in some new spirit. we´ll see.

Tiozzo should win this one...Sahnoune, who is far from being a great champion, managed to almost stop Erdei and gave him hell...Tiozzo is far better than Sahnoune and packs almost as much power at LH...moreover Tiozzo is much slicker than Sahnoune, has much better speed, stamina and boxing skills, and far far more experience...Tiozzo by late TKO

I go for Tiozo to win, and then fight Mormeck in a french superfight. apparently Mormeck likes the idea, from the scraps of info i've read around the net

Tiozzo wont fight Mormeck, Tiozzo is a LH now, he struggled quite enough to make the limit, Mormeck is much too strong at CW and won't go down to LH...

yeah but money talks and hasn't tiozzo talked about going back to cruiser if he beats erdei?

of course Mormeck won't go down to light heavy!

i never heard of Tiozzo saying he would come back to CW...he is too small for CW, he hasnt got enough power and guys like Mormeck would outmuscle him to easily...thats what happened vs Hill the 2nd time, Hill was much bigger and stronger than Tiozzo at 200

i'll take it you're a good source of info, as you're french. it was something i read somewhere on the ESB forums I think, so it's reliability isn't 100% that Tiozzo wanted Mormeck. Tiozzo did beat a good cruiser in Nate Miller, when Miller was on form a few yrs ago. But yes, today's cruisers are bigger with the ten lb increase.

however, Tiozzo does struggle with his weight. & if he beats Erdei, which I'm hoping he will, who knows what kind og big money fight he'll try to get?

he does struggle to make weight, but not the right weight in fact...Tiozzo naturally baloons up very fast and makes some fat...Tiozzo is FAT at CW while he is slick and cut at LH thats the whole difference...Mormeck had trouble making the limit at LH since he is a very muscular fighter and muscle weight much more than fat...

have you seen Tiozzo vs Nate Miller? I never saw that fight...did Tiozzo fight well & look good vs Mr Miller?

To those who are criticizing Erdeis showing versus Sahnoune it is important to remember he went into the fight with a severely injured rib that affected his performance to a significant extent.Taking that into consideration i find it hard to say anything negative about Erdeis performance that night,he showed the heart of a lion and an indomitable will to win and came back to score a 12th round stoppage over a dead game and hard hitting foe.Tiozzo showed good form versus Dariusz, but it is important to remember that DM was a faded force by the time they met and the outcome was not entirely surprising.Zsolt however is in his prime, and has the all the tools to beat Tiozzo if he is focused and sticks to a sound gameplan to outpoint the Frenchman which i believe he will do.My only concern is that since the fight is being held in France a dodgy decision in favour of Fabrice is a very real possibility should the fight be close on the cards.
