Someone check e-mailed me today to inform me, among other things, that he believes old-timer Jimmy McLarnin is still around, and most likely in the Seattle area. Anyone else know anything about this?

Still around according to Hank Kaplan, he's the second oldest champ alive after Schmeling.

Does anyone know if former Middlweight champ Al Hostak from Seattle has passed away? I can't find any death record for him on the various search engines on line. If he's alive he'd be 87.

I don't know if Hostak is around - I don't think so- but Schoolboy Friedkin is alive. He was a top gun in the thirties.

I spoke with Seattle based boxing historian John Ochs today, and asked him about Hostak. Evidently, Hostak is still alive and living in a Seattle nursing home. John mentioned that he really isn't capable of giving interviews anymore though.
