The fighter Davey Moore, who Roberto Duran KO'd in the 8 round to win the LMW title. How did Davey Moore die?

His own car ran him over,he was trying to stop it from rolling.Tragic way to die,I believe he was only 32 or so.

You gotta be joking....How do you get run over by your own car? Was it running, or was it rolling down a hill? Any details?

Monzon was on his way to the prison when he crashed.

Davey Moore was killed at 28 and a half years old and Carlos Monzon was not killed on the way to prison, Monzon was killed while he was on parole.

It says in the boxrec records if look up Monzon's record that he died in 1995.

My mistake, Monzon was on parole and went back to prison when he was killed on the way there.

I think what happened was he was parked on his drive which was on a slope. He parked, got out, went to the back of the car for some reason (get shopping out??) the car started to roll towards him and for whatever reason he couldn't get out of the way and was crushed.

Very sad.

R.I.P.

Very sad, I liked Davey Moore, very exciting talented fighter, but he never had no luck after Duran beat him. Kind of errie how Davey had such a tragic early death just like the Davey Moore of the early 60s who died after losing his Featherweight title to Sugar Ramos... in fact I think both Moores were about the same age when they died... bit spooky really!! :o

Iheard it this way too. I also heard that he tried to stop the car by bracing his back against it but his feet slipped out forward and the car ran over him.

Yes, that's what I heard that instead of jumping out the way he tried to stop it and slipped. Tragedy.

Moore was just getting his career back in order after crushing defeats to Duran and Buster Drayton. He was working in the Gym with Johnny Persol trying to sharpen some of the basics that he never picked up,due to the fact that the kid was rushed during his career. He had a new manager by the name of Ben Cognetta who was also a friend and seemed to sincerely care about Moore. Davey had just signed a deal for a series of bouts in France right before his death.

I thought he was in his driveway doing some work on his vehicle, he had the vehicle jacked up and was underneath the vehicle when the jack came off and the vehicle landed on top of him.

I remember Iran Barkley at the Hearns post-fight press conference after KOing Tommy. He sobbed as he dedicated the win to his good friend Davey Moore. It was very touching.

Also remember that Davey Moore just missed being on the 1980 Olympic team, losing to Donald Curry in the box-offs. Better for him as we boycotted that year.

I didn't know that. Although I am not surprised to hear it as by all accounts The Blade is a really nice guy, outside of the ring of course.

Don't think so. Got a source for that one?

I read at the time that the car started going back down a drive/hill and Davey tried to stop it and it basically went over him... very sad...

The info that I have about the incident is from a book called Boxing Babylon by Nigel Collins. He details the tragedy. The vehicle was a Jeep Montero, it started to roll downhill and Moore put his back against it to try to stop it. his feet slipped out and he wound up in a sitting position. The jeep rolled over him. It was a wet June day, and the Montero was parked in his driveway on a steep incline. He was unloading groceries.
