I don't expect much input here because most people here are Hatton nuthuggers and will not even acknowledge criticism.

I will start at 2002,

Hatton fought against Stephen Smith and joe hutchenson towards the end of 2002. Smith was nothing more than a joke and had LOST to a 135 pounder. Hatton decided to fight him instead of Witter.

hutchensons claim to fame was cutting Arturo gatti. Whoop de doo. Hatton enjoyed pounding into submission.

In 2003 hatton promised a great year "we're going to go for it", but predictably failed to deliver. An ancient Vince Phillips was beaten in manchester in a disgraceful match. Hatton got him at the end of his career.

Next up was a lightweight by the name of Aldo Rios. Hatton, who could be described as a bully for the amount of lightweights he has feasted on, once again pounded his hapless oponent. Was it too much to ask for hatton to fight at least a 140 pounder? Witter was available.

Finally, to round off 2003 hatton foughts Ben "punch bag" tackie. Tackie had been beaten and lost every round vs Tszyu and mitchell also gave him a hiding. Still, this was a step up after the likes of Rios and hutchenson. Hatton won the match. This rounded off 2003, a year that Hatton said he would hit the big time.

Hatton once again exclaimed that he would become a world champ thyis year. Perhaps he meant that he would continue to hold the wbuseless belt? He started off 2004 in dreadful fashion by taking on yet another lightweight (who had campaigned at super feather) Dennis holbak pederson. Hatton was due to fight Pinto but when pinto ruled himself out WITTER put himself forward. Hatton, in yet another act of a BULLY, would rather fight against a lightweight. Disgraceful.

Next up was a pathetic fight against another no hoper Carlos Wilfredo Vilches. Vilches had lost 4 times and was given a thourough hiding by Sharmba Mitchell a few months previous. This was a year in which Hatton exclaimed that he would "go for it". Did he mean, go for no hopers?

By this stage people were on Hattons case bigtime. Actually, people were on his case from the stephen Smith fight. He had refused to fight WItter for years. Witter proceeded to call him out. When he fought vilches, SHARMBA Mitchell fought on the undercard giving a good hiding to joke stewart. Ray Oliviera had previoously retired on american television and had said publically that he couldn't make 140 pounds and hadn't made it for 3 years. hatton decided to make him weight drain himself. The old man was given a good hiding by a dubilant hatton to close of 2004, another year that Hatton said he would "go for it". He must have meant he would go for bums.

In 2005 hatton FINALLY signed to fight Tszyu. At the time, I didn't realise that Hatton had nowhere to go. he HAD to fight Tszyu now or be labled as an absolute joke. He was seen as a joker in america, a guy who wouldn't step up if he was paid. He held off the tzyu fight until he had the absolute best chance of beating him and he did. I give hatton credit for beating tszyu. I may think he used too much illegal tactics that he wouldn't have gotten away with in a US ring, but the fact is he won.

Then he fought Maussa who had been clubbed by Cotto and beat harris in his previous fight. Harris had weighed 134 pounds on the scales (I have had confirmation from someone who was at the weight in). Hatton was given a tough time by Maussa.


Now contrast it with Cottos resume.

18th fight, Maussa gets a hiding.
20th fight, lovemore ndou gets beaten.
22nd fight, Bailey (a dangerous puncher) goes down.
23rd fight, Corley beaten in 5
24th fight, Abdullaev gets a beating

Ohhh, I rather believe it does when the fighter is Kostya Tzsyu. Have you forgotten just how highly regarded the man was before he lost to Hatton?

Why are you dwelling on Hattons past, it's the present where he is finally in the big fight position.

He also didn't wait for the right time to get Tszyu as you put it, it was the only time for that fight to be made. Tszyu was inactive for a while so there was no way he was going to fight him then and Tszyu intially was the one who wanted nothing to do with Hatton because Tszyu was looking for mega money fights and didn't really want to fight Hatton but ended up having too when fighters being with rival TV companies ruled his more lucrative options out.

I'm not dwelling on his past, I'm just pointing out my reasons for disliking the man. He fought the bummiest bums for years instead of facing the big boys and this is a fact. He finally fought Tszyu because he had no other option. Just like Calzaghe has exhausted his bum of the month club and now he simply HAS to fight Lacy or nobody will give a F U C K about him. Hatton could have fought Mitchell/Witter/Corley (he was mandatory for Corley for years), but he didn't. Why? Well what do they all have in common?

no only that but he is now trying to get a fight with the likes of Gatti and Ben Rabah when Floyd is ready willing and available. He needs a "tune up" for Floyd after 40 fights. What a joke.

Floyd has the best resume of ANY current active fighter.

My entire point in this post is, Hatton has 1 big win on his record against Tszyu (35 years old, coming off a serious injury and 3 rounds in 2 years). He fought mostly against bums beforehand. Cotto and Mayweather have significant wins all over their careers. Look at Mayweathers record. What was Hatton doing in his 18th fight? Not winning title like Floyd. Not giving Maussa a hiding (he beat maussa in his 40th fight). People need to realize that Cotto and Floyd have no problem fighting Hatton. The one not making the fights happen is HATTON. He is the one claiming to need TWO warm ups. He has 40 fights and he still needs "warm ups". LOL

Cotto and Mayweather have significant wins all over their careers. Look at Mayweathers record. What was Hatton doing in his 18th fight? Not winning title like Floyd. Not giving Maussa a hiding (he beat maussa in his 40th fight). People need to realize that Cotto and Floyd have no problem fighting Hatton. The one not making the fights happen is HATTON. He is the one claiming to need TWO warm ups. He has 40 fights and he still needs "warm ups". LOL

He has worked hard at beating overmatched opponents. What 50:50 fights has he been in? I can only remember 1.

phillips was stopped in 2 rounds and he beat Pinto on a SD. Nevertheless, all his fights after the Hatton fight were above 140 pounds. He was a weight drained old man. I am not going to argue with people who fell he was a good opponent. that speaks for itself

Floyds a boxer not a punche so he won't take out Mitchell as fast as a puncher like Zoo - Hatton wouldn't take Mitchell out quicker than Zoo did either. Its like saying Ali can't beat Foreman because he went the distance twice with Frazier

Hattons a Gent, decent bloke, great pressure fighter, great chin, great workrate, decent speed and I find him likeable

But for the same reason I dislike Delahoya I don't like Ricky Hatton. Hes had everything given to him on the plate just like the golden boy. While other fighters would jump at any contender opportunity Hatton has managed a very LOW RISK career (yes Hatton did avoid Judah, Corley, Witter, Harris, Mitchel and of course PBF - not saying he couldnt beat any of them but Ricky wants low risks make no mistake). Yet everyone claims he wants the best - urm no he wants the lowest risk fights that make him look good. And he won't give other top fighters a decent payday (ie Witter) and he wont fight his biggest domestic rival (ie Witter). I personally want my champ to be a working mans champ whos come from the bottom not had big paydays but kept boxing for the dream they could make it to the top and 1 day hit the jackpot. Been a multi-millionaire before you fight a top10 fighter does not make u this!
