THIS BUM WAS PROTECTED TO THE MAX...
HE DIDN'T FIGHT AN OPPONENT WITH A WINNING RECORD UNTIL HE WAS 12 YEARS OLD...
ALMOST 13!!!
TALK ABOUT HYPED...CODDLED AND PROTECTED...HE MAKES J.D. CHAPMAN'S PEOPLE LOOK LIKE DOWNRIGHT RISK-TAKERS...

Get a detective on this one, I'm thinking this career does a morph at age 19 when he is really ready to make a statement.

It's possible that they don't have complete records of those fighters considering it was quite awhile back.

So he decides to retire after 112 professional fights at the ripe old age of....17?

Wow, I was nearly convinced it was a data entry error and was just joking around about it.

What a gripping story, Thanks John.
Sounds like the Nipper got busy with family life. Does Alex have memories of his grand dad? If it's something he would talk about send him to this thread.
Was the Nippers early management team Stacy Goodson's forefathers?
Ok that was a foul, one point from BoxBuzz.

Nipper's opponent's record of choice: 0 - 0
Nipper's record: W 94 (25 ko's) | L 11 | D 6 | Total 112
Nipper's venue of choice: 'Paddington Baths, Paddington, London, England'
someone tell stacey and JD that it's time to relocate!

A lot of those 0-0 records could be simply caused by lack of historical evidence.

Jack Kearns and Mickey Walker didn't seem to think so, nor anyone of note from the boxing fraternity of the time... but I suppose looking back at names on an internet database at fighters you've never seen you'd know more about the fight game than them?
If you had even a vague knowledge of the records on boxrec from this era you'd know that the majority of them are vastly incomplete. In reality most of his opponents had more fights than a leading fighter today will have in his entire career. The only way they get to appear on boxrec is if someone painstakingly trawls through several years worth of newspapers recording the results.

Wow.. somewhat unnecessary that was. I think Rng Anncr's post was meant to be humorous

It wasn't just humorous. It was hilarious.

I believe it can be classified as a sarcastic simile.

Some people just don't have a sense of humor.
Like I'd seriously crack on a 12 year old kid.
J.D.'s over-protective handlers...now that's another matter.

the kid was pretty well built. too bad he was washed up by the age of 17, hell at 17 mike tyson the earliest bloomer i can think of hadnt even reached his prime yet.
nipper pat daly is a great example of mis management and handling someone. they should have let the kid grow, hell most of his fights were BEFORE HE HIT PUBERTY!

Nipper Pat Daly's story is incrediable! I also feel that
he shouldn't have turned pro at eight or nine years
of age, but notice that the poor kid was going through
hell to make weight towards the end of his career,
Think about it.....Daly was only 17 when he was
washed up. At that age, most boys are growing
rapidly in terms of both weight and height.

Spot on. He was forced to make ridiculous weights at an age when he should have been growing rapidly. As a full grown adult he was (certainly for his day) a big man: around 5'11" and over 13 stone.
Had he been brought on gradually and allowed to grow into a comfortable weight class, who knows how far he could have gone. In a way he was a victim of his own talent; had he not been so good, at such a young age (able to beat the best fighters in Europe), he no doubt would never have been pushed so far, so early.

Really Newton should have been strung up for the way he handled Nipper, utter madness!... I'm sure Daly would have at least won British and Europeon titles had he been allowed to mature properly, he could well have been one of our greatest world champions!.... very sad story...

Hi Silkov,
good to see you're still posting. This board could do with a few more knowledgeable fellas like yourself.
Did you get those Times articles I e-mailed you a while back?

Wilfredo Benitez was a world champ by age 17. Anyway, usually boxers who start too early are finished early as well.

Yep Sean Ogrady turned pro at 16 retired at 24. Maybe he made some dough at least.

That's another good example but as I said, it usually happens not always... there are a few such as Morales, Barrera, etc. that don't end so quickly. I wonder why.. (probably because they face lower class competition until they're bodies are more of like that of an adult's than that of a teenager..)
