BOXING - Kenna has been making it tough going for Skelton

SOUTHERN Area heavyweight title holder Colin Kenna has been sparring with British champ Matt Skelton in preparation for his first defence next month, writes KIERAN FOX.

Kenna, 29, has spent the week training in Bedford with Skelton ahead of his fight with London's Mickey Steeds at Southampton Guildhall on March 5.

And despite giving away nearly two stones to Skelton, the Southampton-adopted Irishman has been more than holding his own.

"He's been doing really well," said Kenna's trainer Jack Bishop.

"What better preparation can you have than sparring with the British champion?"

While Kenna, pictured above, goes head to head with Steeds, the undefeated Skelton is set to defend his title against Danny Williams on February 25.

l Bishop has added the "Isle of Wight Assassin" Jay Morris to his stable after the 27-year-old parted company with trainer Ronnie Davies by mutual consent.

"He's a good prospect but he's got some work to do," added Bishop.

Looks like the Kenna vs. Steeds fight is shaping up to be quite a scrap, looking foward to it!

Strange news with Jay Morris - Topper any news why he split from his trainer to go with Jack?

Kenna didn't look impressive at all against Simpkin in his last fight. Was over weight for his size and looked sluggish.

Ideal sparring for Kenna, he seems to do it right when it comes to this, before his previous fight he was sparring Michael Sprott.

Looking at the style of Steeds , sparring Skelton would be an obvious choice, both are roughhouse type of boxers,

I've got my ticket for this one, really looking foward to it
