Lacy question

How the hell can he get rocked by a guy like SHEIKA and already be ready for Joe? :-?

http://www.arcade2084.com/boxing/lacyrocked.gif

If Sheika hurts him then If he thinks he can walk through Joes then he's in for some trouble!

Slaps or not ask the 31 guys he's put out!

Yeah people go on about Calzaghes knockdowns but both of those were good shots that he bounced right back up from with a clear head and went on to win decisively.

And still the WBO and NEW IBF SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WURRRRLD! :TU:

Lacy was seriously rocked there and if Sheika had been more of a finisher we wouldn't even be having this conversation right now. Just one more reason why the Calzaghe fight is way less of a foregone conclusion than some of our American friends would like to believe...

To be fair though, that looks a helluva shot Sheika lands right there - bang on the button. If Joe lands anything like that, he'll break his hand.
In fact, you could say Lacy shows a good chin just to stay on his feet.
Still reckon Calzaghe wins this one though.

Here's what Lacy's been up to - keeping a diary in the run up to zero hour I think. Arrives in UK this Sat morning.

2AM start - is Joe training in the early hours, like Hatton did, or keeping it to normal hours, like Tszyu did?

Here's the Lacy link.........and try not to get distracted while you're there..

Number 1

Sheika is a huge puncher, punch for punch, he hits way harder than Joe. However, he lacks finesse and doesn't have great speed.

Lacy shows good recovery there, he takes the shot right on the temple, but recovers pretty much instantaneously.

Ask yourself this. Does Lacy hit harder than Kabary Salem? I would say the answer is, most certainly.

You can say Lacy was rocked by Sheika, but he stayed on his feet and got on with the job at hand.

Maybe Lacy isn't ready, but I wouldn't base that decision on whether or not Sheika was able to rock him. Sheika can rock anyone he can hit, what is more of a worry is that Sheika was able to land so oftenh in their fight, something Vanderpool was also doing.

I cannot make my mind up who will win this fight, I really can't. Joe has the form to do the job, but I suspect that injury will play a part. As Mighty Warrior stated, if Joe lands a shot like that on Lacy's big noggin, it will probably crumble like an egyptian mummies.

Fighting Lacy one handed would be no joke, as he will just keep on coming for the whole 12 rounds.

That was a huge power back hand hook with full leverage, it was a few fights ago (Lacy hasn't been buzzed recently). Joe if he does win, wins this fight on speed, not power. Lacys chin is solid as this shot shows (every fighter takes a stroll down queer street once in a while - thats sounds a little gay).

Didn't Lacy do exactly the same though - except actually go down. That was a huge shot from Sheika.

Yeah but Omar Sheika troubling him yet Calzaghe easily cut Sheika up in 5 is so funny. Plus is Lacy's so ready why couldn't he stop him easy like with Reid.

Lacy's getting to overated for being a finisher. If fighters like Vanderpool and Sheika can trouble him then Joes chances are pretty high and Reid a couple of years back could of won too.

What proof is there that Sheika hits harder than Joe? Has he rocked or stopped anyone worth mentioning

Was probably a fluke that Joe broke his hand on someones noggin last time doesn't mean he will if he lands like Sheika.

Wasn't really a hella shot that yet Lacy was hurt by it!

I'm changing my prediction to Calzaghe by KO!
If i had made a thread like this with calzaghe being sparked things would be different
Yeah and Mitchell got stopped in 2 and Kabary was just a fluke. Mitchell was better than Sheika.
If i had made a thread like this with calzaghe being sparked things would be different
Yeah but with Lacy the scores were close!

Lacy walks through punches but to walk through Joe would be smeging stupid!

I think Lacy is a product of a weak division. Apart from Calzaghe who has been pretty inactive lately and Kessler there is not much else.

i rate lacy and thinks he gets to joe in the middle rds.

any fighter can get hurt, but lacy gutted it out and got on with it. :box: calzaghe has looked ragged in recent fights and lacy is strong and persistant with the punch to hurt calzaghe.

lacy KO6.

The division looks to have a good future with good prospects like Chad Dawson and Allan Green climbing the rankings. Lacy v Calzaghe will increase the market value of Super Middleweights because I expect it to be an exciting and brutal battle.

There are others from one weight below who could also go up and make Super Middleweights an exciting division. I would love to see the likes of Kessler fight the best guys from Middles and Light Heavy.

Lacy seems to have improved from the Sheika fight. He's certainly been fearsome from the Rubin Williams fight onward & his momentum is hard to deny for anyone right now. Lacy has peaked and it's all coming together. I don't know if Calzaghe's brittle hands, helped in no part by his cuffing style of attacking, will keep Lacy off.

Sheika seemed to trouble Lacy with a good jab, solid basics and standing his ground. He made him look ordinary. Makes me wonder what Kessler could do, against the impriving Lacy. I've been following MK's fights for a while, and his jab and combinations are excellent. If he could keep Lacy on the end of that jarring jab, and back him up late, he could bash JL up. Lacy only seems effective with the opponent on the ropes.

Jeff seems to have a junior middle or middle frame with big super middleweight muscles. If he got backed up he'd look tiny. I saw him struggle to win on pts vs a guy Fernando Vargas stopped once.

My guess is Lacy is too sharp & forceful for Calzaghe right now, and Lacy will hang around at s/m for a fight with Jermain Taylor. But along the way i reckon he'll fight Kessler, and it'll be the Dane who make shim look average again. if he ever loses his confidence/peak fitness he'll never be the same.

So what if Lacy got rocked. Every fighter gets hit hard. It's about how they recover from it. Joe has been down before so what's the big deal.

Calzaghe question

How can Calzaghe be decked by Salem and be ready for Lacy?....

See...... you can pick holes in any fighter if you try hard enough, this is a weak attempt! Sheika hits harder than Calzaghe. Lacy was caught flush and didn't go down and recovered instantly. I don't see what your point is exactly? If I were being pedantic I would say Sheika hits way harder than Salem at least Lacy stayed on his feet but that would be as pointless at this thread. :o

Sheika may be a heavier hitter than Clazaghe but Joe is much sharper.

A lot is made of Lacy's strength, but Joe's no slouch in the strength dept himself.

Of course, but my point is Lacy being rocked by Sheika has no bearing on Lacy v Calzaghe, much as Salem decking Calzaghe has no bearing either. Lets just hope we get through the next 11 days unscathed and the fight happens. :o

If Calzaghe's hands hold out ok ( and for all we know, he may have hurt them already, but I can't see him pulling out now, he'd never live it down )
I think he might throw and land enough punches to stop a bewildered Lacy at some point - but not knock him down, judging by the above clip.

I don't think the Salem knockdown indicates anything other than Joe wasn't too interested that night, and got careless. That punch looked hard enough to have floored a light heavy.

Some yanks are saying Lacy is the new Tyson? In their dreams maybe.

I might have imagined it, but I thought Joe looked a little stiff legged against Veit - not surprising at this late stage - but it could be that he had no respect for Veit and was just walking into shots full on.

We'll soon know - should be a brilliant night. Wonder what time ITV will kick off their broadcast.

Anyone could improve against the guys Lacy's fought! Sheika and Vanderpool were hitting Lacy quite a alot before he stopped Vanderpool anyway.

He gets hit quite easy till he smacks them one with his right.
Calzaghe question

How can Calzaghe be decked by Salem and be ready for Lacy?....
He may of been down but he won easy when Lacy won a close fight with Sheika.

Plus Calzaghe's been around for ages to say he's been ready and has alot more experiance than Lacy.

Lacy could still be a 20 fight novice whos best fights have been against guys Joe already beat.

Jesus give it a rest, I hope Calzaghe wins for your sake!

Come on your arguments are getting weaker and weaker. Yes Calzaghe has more experience, but he's also getting older and Lacy is fresher. Its a close fight as much as you want to discredit Lacy any way you can that is the case - it's Calzaghe's toughest fight for a long long time.

He may of slowed down but he still has enough for Lacy.

If Lacy wins I'll give him credit so no need to say for me sake.

Anyway no one mentioned Tszyu being 35 when Hatton beat him did he now and he never had no tough fights before it and nearly everyone thought Tszyu was Ko Hatton even after nearly 2 years layoff.

Lacy probably needs a little more time to be ready.

Perhaps, but full credit to Lacy for stepping it up sooner rather than later. Both are having their first unification fight here lets not forget, at opposite ends of their careers almost.

If Sheika supposedly hits harder than does anyone reckon he could ever dump Eubank like that?
