I was really pleased to see that this one is happening. Karmazin was supposed to unify his IBF title with WBA champ Alejandro Garcia. Garcia wanted more money. Now Roman faces Daniel Santos, who recently lost his WBO title. Karmazin looks like the best light middle in the world - after dominating Ouma - and Santos is a recognisible fighter having beaten Margarito twice.

If Karmazin keeps winning, improving and looking good, he might get a shot at the Taylor-Wright winner. Taylor was considering facing Roman for his hometown fight that was scrapped recently. Could be another inriguing fight on the horizon if all goes well.

Santos beat Margarito on ONE occasion via a technical decision (i.e. cuts), the other fight was a no contest.

it will be interesting to see how he does vs santos...not to compare vs margarito but to compare to SERGEI DZINDZIRUK, the guy i tabbed to upset santos before it happened...IMO sergei is #1 at 154 & would like to see a good eastern bloc unification bout!!

anyhow, it's great to see that the pieces of the 154-lb picture are coming together. also, Karmazin will face another skilled southpaw which does make things interesting. should RK win, I'm sure Ouma will be waiting for another fight. 154 doesn't look so bland any more.

Dzinziruk won't rush into anything, imo he'd be the last person to jump into unifications. i admire German boxing but when it comes to world title reigns, these top guys don't risk it until they've made quite a lot of money & title defenses.

On the undercard, Garcia is facing Jose Rivera for the WBA title. If Karmazin and Garcia both win, who knows it might make Karmazin-Garcia more realistic. Garcia closed the door on a Karmazin fight, wanting more money.

154 has plenty of talent, it's just that until recently nobody has been fighting one another.

it did seem a colourless division and ppl assumed that Ouma would rule 154. but there's nothing like a good shock, which Karmazin's win definitely was, to make things interesting.

I like the look of Karmazin. Really composed and a good body puncher, too. He's still got plenty to prove, since he struggled with Keith Holmes and Ouma might have been ill. But he seems to be well rounded enough.

What happened to Travis Simms? Thought he looked quite good in beating Garcia although I know that was a few years back and he caught him while he thought it was a break

Joking aside, I hope Walker got well paid for the Karmazin fight, that was a pretty horrible mismatch.

Karmazin vs. Dzindziruk is the fight I want to see, too. Leave Garcia and Santos to fight each other once Roman is done with 'em.

Karmazin-Santos wil be a very strategic affiar withg both being highly skilled boxers who look to pounce on mistakes made by their opponents.



Re:David Walker, the man himself said it was a good payday for the Karmazin fight. It was also partly a case of no one else wishing to step into the ring with Karmazin for the EBU title.
