An unimportant but 'interesting' boxing record

 I'm going off on one again, but I just had to tell someone this and the little lady doesn't listen to me now after I tried explaining what super champions are to her.

For whatever obscure reason, I ended up looking at the record of Zoltan Petranyi just now, and thought "that's who Danny Williams fought in his warm up before Harrison" (or tune down after Klitchko, whatever you want to call it.

But looking at Petranyi's record, I don't see Danny's name...

...but then I do. The two fought in June last year. Since then, Petranyi (29-17) has fought 13 times. Completely padded where he hasn't fought the big guns for his pay days, of course, but all the same, almost unheard of these days.

His last opponent this week (that was why I looked at it it's in the results page) was a guy 3-0 (Petranyi won.) So I tried to think what was behind this - a change from Petranyi fighting the 0-4 0-6 fighters to pad out the record - is this other guy taking on a decent opponent? But then I look at the record - his record has been comiled over 1 month
http://www.boxrec.com/record345952.html

Is this intended "hyper" padding on the part of Petranyi or whoever is behind him? Sophisticated to the extent that they have struck upon the idea that a stiff with a 3-0 record looks better than a 0-3 record. Is this a glimpse of the padded future?

Another interesting record is that of Kovaks (who lost to Petranyi in September btw.) After accumulating a 2-11 record between '94 and '99, he returns in 2005 and wins 9 on the bounce against guys with a combined 0-25 recrd.

Having now got himself a perfectly balanced 11-11 record, Kovacs has now felt himself fully qualified to return as the "padder" for Roth and the rest. :D

If I am correct you are suggesting that Gyuris obtained a padded record so he could be fed to Petranyi and look like a good scalp ?

Interesting thought and I guess it's happened before but in reality how much better is it on a fighter's record to beat a level y fighter than a level z fighter ?

Either way an interesting post :TU: and I sense plenty of SN or Audley jokes on the way.

That's my theory, yes. because the 3-0 guy, given his previous opposition, surely isn't going in taking Petranyi as an easy win to continue his bloated record. Similarly, Petranyi wouldn't take this knowing he'd lose (as the money wouldn't be enough to make it worthwhile.) It could just be coincidence of course - the 3-0 guy set out to form a bloated record and make some money. Petranyi's people saw the guy was pish, but, being that his record (on paper) looks better than previous stiffs, they gave Mr 3-0 a call and offered some Turkish Lira in a tupperware box.

I don't know what you mean jokes about Audrey and SN in relation to padded records though. :o Don't get it at all. And who's Ike Ibeabuchi as well?

Looks like there's boxing every 5-10 days in Slovakia :TU:

Does look like padding though, most of the fights are in a gym against 0-? fighters and then every so often Petranyi goes and fights a prospect.

Jomo, I've said it before, and I'll say it again: You crack me up. But seriously, do you have the world's most tolerant missus, or are you just insane? Nobody, and I mean NOBODY should know as much about the worlds most irrelevant sanctioning bodies as you do. I fear for your health, I really do......

Some of us draw the line at the WBF, but you really go beyond the call of duty.
:D :TU: :D

"For whatever obscure reason, I ended up looking at the record of Zoltan Petranyi just now"

That has to be the funniest thing I've read all year. (No offence mate )

As a rule, I generally try to keep garnering my knowledge of sanctioning bodies and my vast array of other pointless activities when she's at work.

On the other hand, I pay her phone bill, so the moment she stops feigning interest in the UBC I have the power to make her bankrupt.

...................

You could be on to something there My T Sharp. Given the number of fight dates and the lack of specific venues, they probably are happening in gyms with just one official or something there to get the fights cosher. And Petranyi comes along to fight the latest starlet.

While I'm at it (last thing) could I get your opinion on these potential contenders for the worst boxer ever award?

1) Eric Crumble. http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=005316
The obvious choice. A sublime 0-31 record, compiled over just 41 rounds. However, please give some serious consideration to the next two.

2) Genildo Ferreira. http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=202841
At first glance, a respectable 0-3 record. However, He lost to Jose Carlos Amaral, the only win in this guys 45 fight career! (Amaral was 0-35 when he fought Ferreira. On the other hand, Ferreira did lose by only an MD in his last fight, which suggests he may show a little too much talent.

3) Alfred Pollack. http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=023867
A 0-8 record. However, he is the only victim of Ladislav Slezak (now 1-14) who in turn is the only victim of Vlado Szabo (now 1-15)

Any suggestions welcome. :TU:

Good old Carlos didnt get KOed as much + he fought better opponents (only 3 with a sub .500 record) He could probably have won vs lesser opponents. I have seen him 3 times and he did ok in those fights.

Bloody hell, 0-48-1 is one impressive record. As you say, he is no muppet. Obviously has a good trade as a fairly durable/competitive journeyman. Gets a title shot as well I see

Eric Crumble I'm sure is simply waiting for his Kirino Garcia turnaround, it will come, that cat has too much talent.

And as the cliche goes, too much store is put by the O these days.

Apologies again for being overly pedantic and uninteresting, but I have had this thing niggling me for a while now, slightly related to this original topic, and whilst I'm fairly certain that interest and/or knowledge in Gergian boxing is limited for most, I'd much appreciate any offers of explanation for the following.

When you go to the results page, you often find results up from Georgia (The country I'm talking about)

Here's this year's cards:- http://www.boxrec.com/country.php?count ... &SUBMIT=Go

Now the point is - is it just me, or are these results from Gergia showing an extortionately high proportion of results which appear as decision wins? In the last two cards, for example, out of 22 fights there was only 1 result which came inside the distance. There were a few KO's on the 3rd last card, but nevertheless I'm pretty sure that if you work out an average, then the % of fights in Georgia result in decisions rather than kos/tkos far, far more than any other boxing nations/promoters/anything else card.

So why is this? Is Georgia a nation of powder-puff punchers? Do pro Gergian boxers wear headguards? Are these cards little more than some sort of training exercise, with only the necessary officials present in order for the fights to be validated, but are otherwise nothing more than a light training session ? Are they simply rigged?

I'd genuinely love to know, so if anyone has any theories please let me know...

Jomo, just in case if you stumbled across Eric's Manager's number in your... research. I noticed that he doesn't have a nickname & i have the perfect one.

Eric 'Let's get ready to' Crumble.

Please pass it on.

:D Not bad squire, but is it on a par with Vlad "The Slovak Rambo" Szabo? That's what the fans really want to know

Jomo you are one entertaining fellow, your knowledge of Boxing obscurities for want of a better word is extremely interesting yet strangely worrying :D The padded records theory i think is pretty on the button as well when one sits and ponders. These crafty promoters are often one step ahead :TU:

And as for Egon Roth well i'm not surprised his record is padded, that guy is one lacklustre "fighter".
