The great super-middleweight champion Sven Ottke

Hey, he was the best. Fast, slick, impossible to hit, boxed the ears off of much bigger and stronger men, fought frequently and strong competition. Sure, his last year when his legs had slowed was ugly, but until then he was great.

It will take a long time until the super-middleweight division will have a champ of a similar caliber. :box: :TU:

Mate, thats crazy   :TU:

Sven Ottke was a good sleeping pill, anytime you needed a good rest, watch an Ottke fight and you'd sleep the night away  :TU:

I'm surprised your not a Lacy fan being American, whats with the Danish and German Super Middleweights that you like ?

You know Joe Calzaghe would have beat Ottke, after all Calzaghe is the "BEST" Super Middleweight in the world until he's beaten  :TU:

Yeah Calzaghe could have been the next Ottke if he dominated the way the mighty Ottke did

All Hail Ottke! :TU:

For heavens sake. My past entreaties have been derided, mocked and ultimately unsatisfied.
Maybe one of you English gentlemen can give me succour.
WHAT IS A TROLL????

A troll is somebody that's sole aim is to be argumentative and just incite arguments with people. Just a general pain in the arse whose posts aren't productive in any way.

I AM NOT A TROLL. I am less of a troll than all of you. Put that in your bong and smoke it.

how do you now Lacy could've done anything with a peak Ottke?

Lacy's not proven himself as good as Glen Johnson yet and Ottke set back one of Johnson's finest performances - albeit barely. also, Lacy's never faced any kind of finesse/sharpness. what happens when he does - does he stumble off balance, swinging for the fences, get picked off by counters then bitch about the decision after being outboxed for 7 of 12 rds? that's what Brewer and Mitchell did.

remember, Ottke might not have been pretty but he was a master of angles/space, had a superb defense and always on balance. maybe Lacy could've made him fold, maybe Lacy's wildness would be used against him.

Pure speculation my man, nothing more. Just think Lacy would have sickened him with relentless powerpunching. A couple of those big hooks he blew away the Sandman with would have done the trick against Ottke IMO. Shots like that..... Doesn't matter if you block em, they take you with them (or perhaps thats an insight into how shite my guard is, lol)

Lacy would definitley have made Svenny fold if Ottke would have defended against him in 2004

Even if Lacy knocked out Ottke in one round it would have counted as a slip in Germany :TU:

.......... and if Ottke was knocked out cold then it would count as a low blow :TU:

The mighty Ottke was unbeatable in Germany

Hard to argue with that, Joe has often talked about being the best, but Lacy seems keen to prove it, he has proven that by taking on Joe in the UK.

Terence wrote:I briefly met Jeff today. He was not very talkative. Some people thought he was rude but I'm inclined to think he was focussed.

He looks solid in terms of his build though. He didn't hit the bags, just a round of skipping but I was impressed with his physique.

Looking forward to seeing how Joe looks tomorrow. He is pretty approachable by all accounts.
He seems to be one of the few boxers who believe in adding muscle instead of cutting weight. He definitely has good body shaping for a guy who weighs 168 pounds. With the fight coming in, what 5 days, I'd be more inclined he was getting down to business instead of chitchat.

Ottke wanted no part of Calzaghe at all, the fight should of happened, everything Ottke done, Calzaghe done it better!

Hmm, bit of a simplistic view mate. Calzaghe beat some of his opponents in more spectacular style, but Ottke often faced better younger versions, and he also fought a lot more often.

The best that can be said is that NEITHER man ever proved themselves the best in the division beyond doubt.
