i picked calzaghe. however, i am astonished. asbolutely astonished.

I've fallen in love with Joe all over again. That was even better than the Eubank fight.

Full respect to Lacy, what a warrior to get through the 12 rounds.

Another Yank sent packing! Exactly like McClellen! That is without doubt one of the best performances by any boxer at anytime. Cetainly one of the best by a British fighter. Even I didn't think he was that good. Why? Because at last he got the fight he wanted. Where are all the yanks now? Where are all those that said he had ducked people, that he hadn't fought anyone? I knew he would win. Did you see how relaxed he was and how nervous Lacy was?

If Marvelous Marvin says he is in the top 6 pound pound in the World thats good enough for me. I would say he's in the top 3. Lacy is finished and will never be the same fighter again. Where was his power? Has I said it's alright looking great against B level oppenents. Another over hyped Yank!

On a post ages ago I said I thought Calzaghe was one of the best fighters this country has ever produced and he looked it tonight! I'm going to bed very happy. Speak to everyone in the morning!

What can I say!! Joe fought the perfect fight.

I'm chuffed to bits for him cos he's taken a real battering from the critics, some of it justified, but what a fight on his part.

36 minutes of pure class.

The gobshite attitude of Lacy's girlfriend and trainers made this beating all the mor enjoyable for me.

I'll bet there was alot of jaws on the floor in American living rooms and among the employees of ShowTime.

I don't think Jeff will ever be the same again.

Total fornicating class. Let's hope Joe doesn't take this as his cue to retire as undisputed super world champion of all time, because I'd like to see him do that to a few more world-class fighters.

I don't think any American can knock that win no matter how hard they try. There was no filthy business, no extreme home bias and Calzaghe won every fornicating round! Probably the most one sided mega fight I have ever seen. Did you see how tense Lacy was and how at ease Calzaghe was before the fight, I couldn't believe the contrast. I'll miss Lacy, doesn't matter how young he is, he ain't coming back from this, it will always hang over his head.

And one last time:

I was not a Calzaghe fan and thought he was overated.

But tonight changed that and i thought he was fantastic. He now has my 100% backing.

One thing i wasnt keen on was Calzaghe boxing with his hands down by his waist, i just dont understand boxers that take a chance to lose it all.

Brilliant, he took Lacy to school, i thought that maybe Lacy's corner would pull him out of the fight around round 9-12, but what a heart Lacy showed, great fight

Give Jeff credit for showing tremendous heart and gameness. That being said, in light of McClellan's current condition I think your remarks show an utter lack of class and respect for fighters who give there all like McClellan and Lacy.

Also, if we could all just enjoy the fights themselves and leave this petty nationalism behind I think we would all be better off. But like I said much respect to Calzaghe, he has definately earned this American fight fan's admiration. But I truly suspected Lacy was not yet ready for a fighter of Calzaghe's calibre.[/quote]

Calzaghe has some great fights waiting at 175-lbs, where he will most probably move up. he's had trouble making 168 for a long time. how about the Clinton Woods-Glen Johnson winner? the Tomasz Adamek/Paul Briggs winner? (after those fights finally happen...) imo a guy like Tiozzo could be lured over here for his WBA title. Erdei also needs a big fight and either of those two could be a route to the title.

i don't expect Joe to look this great every time. this was his special night when he proved what a great fighter he is, when most were ready to write him off. aggressors like Tiozzo or Johnson might play into Calzaghe, but it'd be harder for him to try and cut down Woods or Erdei. but i wouldn't count JC out against any of these


one thing i want to say is i'm real disappointed with websites like TSS, with their dismissive attitudes to Calzaghe, articles where the writer went out his way to put JC down, zealously pro Lacy predictions, etc. results like this make them look like real dumb shits despite their obvious pretence to literary greatness. this condescending attitude cropped up pre Hatton-Tszyu & it irks the shit out of me.
