Well done Joe

What a display
To dominate from first to last, to be the boss for 3mins of every round..and to make it look easier than some of his lesser rated defences
Who can doubt him now...
But I just feel kind of cheated in a way because maybe he should have crossed to America years ago and taken it to the yanks, on last nights showing who would doubt him against RJJ of 4-5 years ago.
I agree with ITV for once in their `best performance from a British boxer for the last 20yrs` Lacy was higher than the Zoo Hatton beat, Calzaghe dominated more than Benn did against McClellan......and just pips Honeygan....well comes close anyway
WELLDONE JOE

Well I wouldn't put it past the Honeyghan win as Curry had proved himself one of the best p4p in the world but for sheer boxing brilliance its hard to find anything comparable to what Joe did last night. One of the reasons I've criticised Calzaghe in the past is because I knew that he was a great talent, now he's finally had the chance to show it and I hope he gets the credit and the Lacy people don't come up with excuses... at the end of the day he schooled Lacy, who I think will do well to come back from that beating!...

You may find this hard to believe but Just as I grew to like Hatton in the wake of his match with Kostya I now have an appreciation for Joe as well.
*I know his name and will always spell it correctly.
*I appreciate his true talent, he is fast acurate, durable and has great heart.
*Win or lose in the future I will speak of him with respect because he deserves it.
*At this point I would favor him to win many of the theoretical matchups being proposed.
My problem with Joe was that it did not appear to me that he was honestly tested. I never took him seriously. After the fight last night I viewed some of his older work in the ring. His punches at times seem to be thrown a bit wide, he seems too willing to square up with dangerous opponents, I thought his opponent list was weak, I now know I underestimated him. He has natural good balance, he is quick and has good if not devastating power, clever on the inside and though his punches are wide at times he is selective and can get them short and straight through when he sees the opening. Good defensive skills.
If indeed he has been fighting lesser opponents and has always had greater skill than he has shown, he may indeed have a little left in the tank for a longer career ahead of him. Jeff maybe more limited than what some of us believed but Joe showed it was a mismatch. No need for a rematch. And unless Joe has demoralized him I think we can still expect good things in the future from Jeff. He does need to work on his boxing skills, as Joe proved he will not be able to outpower everyone.
Joe it appears in your interviews that you are a pretty forgiving fellow, I could use some of that. And I am now a believer and applaud your work.
Good luck in the future and from this American boxing fan's point of view you are indeed the best Super Middleweight of all time.

prime 168lb roy jones vs calzaghe? well lets be thankful for calzaghe's and calzaghe's fans sake that the fight did not happen.

You beat me to it

Calzaghe has more handspeed than Toney did... I think he certainly would have tested Jones at 168... speed was the key to beating Jones and Calzaghe has that and always has...

I suppose Calzaghe had more handspeed than Floyd Patterson too?

I'm amused that you find it funny... try watching Toney and then Calzaghe... Joe throws faster combinations... simple as that, no joke....

But Calzgahe's punches from this fight had absolutley no sting or snap in them. He was slapping as Lacy said he was. By Calzghe saying he had to slap because of fear of a 'Broken hand' is not believable as Gerrie Coetzee also suffered more severly with broken hands and he never slapped or fought like a girl, Coetzee punched like a mule kicked despite all the operations on his right hand.
Toney and Jones would of knocked out him out as well as Glencoffe Johnson which Calzghe pulled out of.

Yeh and that explains Lacy being put on his ass too I guess right?
You dont have to be a big puncher to be a great fighter. This is BOXING afterall.

You call that a KNOCKDOWN?!?!
Hell if thats a knockdown than Hagler was definetly floored by Roldan, Ali was definetly knocked down by Chuck Wepner, and Holmes was definetly floored by Butter Bean!
Did you see the fight? That was a definete slip, not to mention Calzaghe punching behind his back

DEFINITION OF KNOCKDOWN
i. A knockdown results in a fighter touching the ground with any part of his body due to damaging attack(s).
ii. A standing knockdown is when the fighter has sustained damage and the referee determines to stop the attack from continuing.
iii. The Referee determines a knockdown and will proceed with the count once the opponent has gone to the neutral corner.
iv. If the opponent does not follow the Referees instructions to go to the neutral corner the count will stop, and will start again at 1 when the fighter reaches the neutral corner.
Just for you

Judges also scored it a knockdown too

james toney who is a better fighter than calzaghe..............
a better question would be who did calazghe beat that had a prime 168lb roy jones speed and skills?

The Toney that Jones beat was weight drained and sluggish... Jones never fought anyone with Calzaghes spped and pace and thats a fact. Is it just coincidence that Jones moved up to 175 when Calzaghe started comeing up at 168?...

Try telling Jeff Lacy that! As for RJJ, I would pick him at his best to beat Calzaghe but it wouldnt be one-sided, Joe would have given him a great test and might even have beaten him. Id pick Joe to beat Toney and win every round or stop Glen Johnson. I just love the way you American fans are biased against British fighters

The Calzaghe of Saturday would have beaten the peak RJJ... I know that the Americans will never swallow that one but I'm sure of it... the way to beat Jones has always been pace and speed and Calzaghe has both... end of story... the truth is many of the Top American fighters are overrated... I think Calzaghe would handle Hopkins and Taylor pretty much with ease... niether would be able to deal with his speed and pace...

i think people like brockton can't believe what happened to lacy.if there was no snap to joes punches then what was making lacys legs turn to jelly?what is really funny is how everyone who was certain joe was gonna get ko'd by unbeatable lacy now insist jeff was crap.maybe joe really is that good?

I'd say it was a genuine knockdown but it was like the Foreman knockdown at the hands of Ali, he just fell from exhaustion and the punch that did it had very little to do with the fall.
But that's still a knockdown. I didn't see a push and I'm pretty sure he wasn't steppin on his feet...ala Wepner.

i never thought much of lacy or calzaghe in the first place. lacy coming into this fight was totally unproven, like sam peter.
