Prime Roy Jones would win a clear cut UD although Calzaghe would make it interesting at times.

Hopskins, even in his prime was a smallish middleweight. he is alot like haglar in that way. It probalby would have been diffucult for them both to pack on extra weight and be as effective. I dont think Hopskins would be able to effectively muscle Calzaghe into the corners or ropes to offset Joe's movement and Jab. I believe Calzaghe would pull out a close majority or split decision over prime Hopskins.

prime joe calzaghe was a big puncher with terrific handspeed.
he stopped 21 of his first 22 opponents inside 5 rounds including 10 1st round ko`s and 6 2nd round ko`s.
in his 23rd fight he put the granite jawed chris eubank on the seat of his pants with a left hook in the first round.
as often happens with big punchers joe developed fragile hands that have troubled him all his career and stopped him loading up on his single shots but he still stopped plenty with his skill and speed even after developing hand trouble. joe also has a underrated chin and heart and the couple of times he hit the canvas he often got up to ko his opponent seconds later.
young joe was a lot faster than this 34 year old version too.
if i was going to design a fighter that could beat a prime roy jones a prime joe calzaghe comes pretty close to my blueprint.
anyone that could put eubank down with a single shot early in a fight could certainly spark out roy jones in my opinion.

Roy Jones would have clearly beat Calzaghe if both men were in their primes - Without question - Roy has him beat in every department avaliable...

Including competiton beaten - Lets be clear....calzaghe stock is way up because he beat Jeff Lacy....(that speaks volumes itself).

Prime Joe was not a terrific puncher and if you watch the Lacy fight it is so evident. Lacy was below average which made Joe look good and yet Joe still couldn't really wobble the guy, apart from the KD in the final rd, which had a lot to do with Lacy being exhausted

You probably saw it guys but the fighter the Calzaghe crew and Cal himself wanted to face most now after the Lacy fight was the mentioned Roy Jones Jr.

I would be thrilled if that happened although I'm not too sure Roy woulda been able to handle Joe... I think Roy did a big mistake going down a division after the Ruiz fight. He clearly lost power and I think it was pretty obvious that he had problems with his stamina as well. I might get thrown to the wolves for saying this but I thought I could even spot a slight, slight reduction in speed as well, that of course could have something with age to do.

All this said I would love to see Roy in the ring one final time, not scheduled for any fights this year(although a match between him and B-Hop was scheduled this month earlier, said by HBO), I think if Roy had stayed in the HeavyWeight division after Ruiz he woulda kept going with the winning streak and prime Roy vs Joe: Roy Jones Jr

Lets face it... Roy is the biggest, best fighter of modern times!
He'll truly be missed...

and jones takes calzaghe... but calzaghe has ability to pull off an upset

not too sure about that, Roy has alraedy proven that 12-13 years ago... and since they've both been ona losing streak the last few fights I think Roy woulda gone into the fight with a psycological advantage!
