I watched the fight with my 4 brothers and we all enjoyed it so much. I'll remember this fight for a long long time

Thanks mate. Despite very little kip I was still absolutely buzzing. Best fight occasion I've been to since Benn v McClellan.

with ian sitting by me his brain power increased making him a better reporter for one night only. 8)

Got to say Ian, thought that was a superlative fight review, captured the occasion perfectly. Calzaghe had one of those nights you get only seldom in your career, and you were definetly on your A game old son. Nice one.

Yeah excellent report Ian. I'm glad they kept the fact they were thinking of pulling out a few weeks back, can you imagine the reaction if he had?! Unthinkable.

As for the ref - I think he was blinded by the fact that 99% of America saw Lacy as a hot favorite. It was like he was expecting Lacy to pull things back at any moment. If Lacy had been one of your average run of the mill WBO challengers ( and lets face it, Joe made him look very average ) then surely the ref would have rescued him before the end.

I felt sorry for him late on. Clearly without a hope in hell, slumped on his corner stool, I was hoping one of his corner would step up, put a hand on his shoulder and say: That's enough Jeff, there are going to be other days.

That's what he needed, because there was no way he was going to give in himself.

Part of the problem is probably down to the way many Americans reacted to Tszyu staying in his corner last year: complete contempt in some quarters. Calling him a coward, saying he'd ruined his legacy etc etc.

Calzaghe was unbelievable: Punch perfect and didn't put a foot wrong.

Truly amazing, to think after all those years at the top, all those sub standard WBO challengers, all the critisism and injuries - he can then go and pull out a career best performance when it really counts.

A stunner.

Good review - good because it came across as 'fans' report not strictly a journalists one.

Thats not just your best piece of work either on the net or in print that I have read, but its quite possibly the best internet article I have read.

We have some very talented scribes who post and read here, but that piece flowed and like Joe's performance was complete and faultless.

Made my little attempt at writing look foolish.

Funny, I've just been doing a write up for max, after having some time to think about the fight, and I'm pretty pleased with it.

It's so much more interesting to write about a night like that, so much more to say and more excitement in writing about it.

Have any of you promising writers thought about doing some review of some local gigs (music gigs) and submitting for your local rag. My brothers band has been recieving a bit of press in his locality - but the quality of writing was absolute tross - barely got English basics right.

Its not a one off, the writing in nationwide music publications is also poor. It could be an avenue to get some acclaim.

Has someone beaten you to it, James? I checked the site and there is a review up but not by you. I didn't read the review fully.

I did like your pound for pound article, I thought the videos I sent might have swayed your decision in favour of some of the lighter guys - definately think Rafael Marquez deserves a placing. Although my criteria does differ from yours - mine is primarly based on achievements, quality of wins/titles gained etc. Rafael in beating Austin and Johnson (and a few others) deserves a spot IMO.

I wish I had more time to devote to writing. Jimmy Mc and I had a golden opportunity with Upperfuct but...well, anyone who needs to know knows the drill there.

Hopefully someone will pluck me from obscurity!

By the way, two Yankees came over from Boxing Talk and Max. Neither made a note other than keeping a scorecard. They were busy getting videos and stuff - someone probably wrote the reviews from Showtime.
