Richard Williams Vs Lockett

I know Gilbert had got the shot at Lockett - but I think Richard Williams may have been a better late replacement - I would imagine Richard still has the fitness and sharpness frm his recent 8 rounder.
If it happened in the future - RW by TKO.
What do you guys think?

Think Lockett would win - not convinced by RW against good fighters. He looks great with lesser guys but lacks something.

Interesting - not sure I can agree - Lockett is very predictable and I thijk the Yuri Tsarenko loss took a lot out of him.

I think lockett lost interest and found it hard to motivate himself for fights for a while. He seems to have that back now, i'd have to pick him over Williams at the moment, I'd like to see a Williams have a couple more competitive matches before taking on the like of Lockett.

All Tsarenko really took from Lockett was momentum. The speed at which his career was picking up was very quick until that point, and he was very much in the limelight. Lockett never lost interest as such, he was put on a shelf and forgotten, which in turn disillusioned him with the game in general. He avenged the loss at short notice, and since then has been rebuilding, and adapting. Ask Allan Gray how predictable Lockett was?
I think Richard Williams is the only good fight for Gary at middle in the UK.
Eastman is busy on the international scene.
Dann won't fight him as long as he has a hole in his arse.
Rhodes is pants, and a coward.
Williams v Lockett would be a cracker!!!!!
Suprise suprise, I'd back Lockett to win it too. I think he's fresher, and hits harder. Although Willaims is a crackin boxer!!

What a fight that would be, Williams-Lockett. Far better than Light middleweight Gilbert Eastman, who has also seen better days. Sportsnetwork never seem to be looking Richard's way when it comes to matching their top boxers.
I'd struggle like hell to pick a winner out of Williams-Lockett. Perhaps Richard's superior skills would edge it his way.

It wold be a great fight - I think RWs extra skill would take the steam out of Lockett - but yes Lockett can punch - so can Richard.
Isnlt today th day the board nomnate the next challenger for danns British title?.
If it is Richard - look for Dann to give up the belt and Richard to fight the Winner of the G.Eastman Vs Lockett fight.
The Domestic Middleweight scene is good - lets just hope we see the fights happen!
Lockett busts up nicely and that would suit Richard and Rochard would not have to go looking for him.
2 good fighters - but Lockett is more about power than refined skills.
IMO - Richard would beed another 8-10 rounder to be ready for the British.
The Middlewweight scene in Europe is fairly open.

A bit harsh on Dann that, D.G.
Give him the benefit of the doubt. Lets see what pans out. Sanigar's boxers are not usually looking to avoid fights. Remember Dann took on Howard when no other middleweight in Britain fancied it.
Like you, I'd love to Dann-Williams for the British title though. Fingers crossed.

Not to mean that Dann will bottle it - but does he need it?.
I just do not think he would view it as a wise move - he does not need it as he has the beklt outright and may look to relinquish?.
Williams Vs Dann is a good fight!
Williams by ko or points!...

The local rag has reported that Scott thinks it will be Richard Williams that's announced. Not sure whether he will vacate. While I can see DG's logic, Chris Sanigar has said that he'd having trouble getting decent European fighters matched up with Scott, so perhaps a couple more defences of the Lonsdale belt are in order?

Williams has to be more busier if he is going to force any of the top fighters to face him, 1 fight in 15 months isn't going to get him anywhere.
Williams isn't going to get anyone facing him in a voluntary as he is to dangerous, he needs to force his way into the mandatory spot.

Strictly speaking Williams should box an eliminator. Both Steve Bendall and Matthew Thirlwall scored good wins over Donovan Smillie, Darren McDermott has a couple of fair wins for an Area title too.
That said, I've seen way worse challengers approved by the board than Richard Williams, so in this case I would not be complaining if he got the nod and it will be the fans who win if Dann and Williams sqaure off.

So - is today the day it is announded?.
I hope Richard Williams gets the nod!
if yes - 1 more warm up and then British Title shot!

Maybe his standing in the lower division is the clincher ? - he was the Number 1 at Lt Middle.
It is almost customary when the top rated from a lower division moves up to place him highly.
Good fight if it happens!

That RW turned it down as too short notice I imagine.
A few years back and RW looked the real McCoy to me, but I think he's been badly matched - almost to the point of no return. Plus bad luck too, health wise.
A short notice fight with Lockett is too risky I think. A dynamite puncher with a solid chin means Rich will be taking knockout blows for some time...and seeing as he has a tendency to leave his chin out to dry - at times - that could spell game over.

I suppose 2 weeks notice is not enough!.
Plus - I get the sense RW only wants the recognised titles this time.
British - Commonwealth and European.
Agree - Lockett is too risky at short notice - full notice?...
Did RW gets the nod for the Brotish?.

I hope not, as Lockett has been plugging away for ages at middle, and deserves a shot more than an inactive Williams. Gary also has a better record, and is currently ranked #7 by the WBO (
http://www.wbo-int.com/ ).
As for Williams not wanting the Lockett fight, I think that is sensible. For the Lockett v Williams fight, both would need sufficient time to prepare! Gary would need proper sparring for Williams, and vice versa.
As mentioned before, these are the only two likely names at middle in the UK now, so lets hope they can GET IT ON!!!!

4 years ago this would have been a great match-up. Now, i could'nt care less who wins, or even if they fight!

If you have nothing constructive to add to the conversation, don't bother writing anything at all.

Dann's said to be boxing on the Haskins undercard in Bristol on 7th April. Hopefully something is in the pipeline.
