Round by round - Sturm V Masoe

Just about to start, I've never seen either of these fight but watching it on Dutch TV.

Sturm came in to lasers and terminator-style music whilst Masoe came in to some friendly topical tribal song wearing a Hawaii shirt.. both pretty bizarre..

Sturm looks ripped and relaxed enough, Masoe's wearing a beany hat and is pretty hard-faced...

Let battle commence!

Round 1 - Cautious start, Sturm throwing a few jabs, the shorter Masoe a bit more bullish, Masoe lands a heavy left uppercut mid-round but Sturm slightly cleaner..

Round 2 - Masoe immediately forces Sturm onto the ropes where he unloads but doesn't land much, mid-round Sturm takes command with a couple of heavy jabs, livens up with 40 seconds left, Sturm lands the best shot of the round with a cockscrew left...

Sounds like the kind of fight I was expecting - Sturm controlling things with a tight defense behind the jab. He may hit a rocky patch at some point in the fight, but I reckon his skills will allow him to see out a comfortable, if slightly boring, points win.

Round 3 - Not a great deal of punchers being thrown to start with and the boxers still trying to figure each other out.. both as busy as each other before Sturm lands 2 nice punches mid-round... he soon looks uncomfortable however as towards the end of the round Masoe manages to back him up again.. this time landing once or twice

Round 4 - Masoe lands heavily at the beginning of the round and Sturm looks a little hazy, however a few nice jabs and he's back on top skipping around Masoe a minute later.. Masoe swings wildly and does a 360 before Sturm dominates the end of the round on the backfoot..

Man, Sturm is a nice boxer, but I wish he'd put a bit more devil in his work at times. Imagine how boring a fight between him and Wright would be? Jab, jab, jab..

Punch Stats show that Sturm landed the most in the 1st 3 rounds, Masoe landed the most in the fourth...

Round 5 - Fight slows down but a couple of nice single shots keep things lively.. Sturm looks sharp at times but Masoe maybe the stronger.. Sturm probably on top in this round though thanks to his jab

Round 6 - A minute into the round Sturm lands heavily a few times - I think it was a powerful straight right which started it.. Masoe fights back mid-round but Sturm soon landing hard shots again... Best round so far and the crowd finally getting into it

Round 7 - Sturm lands a cracking uppercut early and follows up again to rock Masoe.. Sturm looking powerful and starting to really take control.. I think the punchstats just said that Strum landed 96 punches to Masoe's 4 in the previous round!!?! Surely not!... Anyway Masoe is still game but not hurting Sturm that much...

Round 8 - Sturm really looking a bit bigger and a bit better than his opponent now... both fighters leaning into each other mid-round, but Sturm soon resumes his dominance by skipping around on the backfoot firing out jabs and straight rights...

Yep not far wrong I'd say so far.. although it's not as boring as I was expecting, the punches are being thrown with intent..

Round 9 - Sturm excites his fans with a few nice shots.. sorry I missed much of the round because I was rolling a spliff but I'm sure Sturm was in control.. he was skipping round nicely for the last few seconds

Round 10 - Much of the same, starting to get a bit boring.. whole thing livens up when the German commentator starts creaming over Sturm being in total control.. my German's not the best but he was definitely proclaiming him as the number 1 and nearly climaxed at one point...

Round 11 - Fight slowed down, Sturm still landing the cleaner shots.. hope this weed kicks in soon.. Zzzzzzzzzz

Round 12 - Masoe needs a knockout... OMG he starts taunting Sturm in the middle of the ring! Taking the piss big time indicating Sturm is a runner?! Most bizarre... Anyway fight stopped mid round for Masoe to tape up his gloves... Masoe throws more shots this round and has Sturm covering up but never looked like getting the knockout...

Masoe just stands still for the last few seconds in some sort of protest to suggest that Sturm ran the whole fight

Sturm 10 Masoe 10

Shutout win for Sturm no doubt... awaiting the official scores now...

Maybe I should mention there was a bit of booing at the end - hard to tell if it was towards Sturm for running or Masoe for being disrespectful but only a minority anyway

117 - 111
117 - 111
115 - 113

Masoe lifts Sturm at the end so no bad blood it seems.. :box:

Ha ha Sturm getting booed big time in the interview! Guess the earlier ones were for him! He seems pretty relaxed and talks his way out of it by acknowledging he's no Mike Tyson in the interview and the DLH fight is mentioned..

Masoe acknowledges that Sturm boxed well but complains of him running and makes a comment that he can't please any crowd against a fighter like that..

I wouldn't say Sturm ran and he controlled the fight well generally, but my god, how conservative is boxing in Germany compared to the glamour of the USA cards and atmospheric UK shows!

I only gave Masoe the 12th, 11th could of gone his way too as Sturm was too busy running around.

Forgot how the 3rd round went, thats how repetitive it became :)

That was an embarassing last round by Strum, circling away for the whole round, then actualy turning his back and running in the the last 10 seconds - you'd think he'd want to end it with a bit more style than that. The crowd rightly booed him.

Showed good boxing skills earlier though, a really excellent jab. Masoe looked a genuine puncher, unlike Lacy last weekend.

Strum looks like a body builder, weird build he has for a box and move style.
