so far all i know he was a heavyweight based in britain, but i think he was an african. oh yes, and he was "a scary looking geezer".
anyone know anything about him. i suppose his biggest fight was his dq loss to greg page. anybody seen this fight, or any of his?

FUNSO BANJO, lost a 10 rounder to MARVIS FRAZIER for his first loss. His meager 8-3, 1 ko record seems misleading since he was never stopped and lasted 8 with PAGE and lost by DQ. Was he a headcase? It would seem that somebody gave up on him. Dan Coli

Banjo was the son of a Nigerian chief and eventually went home to rule his tribe when his father passed away. He wasn't so much a nutcase, as a waste of talent. Frank Bruno steered well clear of him in the early eighties when a fight between them looked a natural. The only trouble with Funso was that when he was losing, he would revert to dirty tactics to get himself slung out rather than lose like a man. He was a diamond outside the ring - a real gent, but he couldn't handle losing. That's what happened against Page, when he was slung out for a number of infringements, mostly sticking the head in. If you want his full record, or more details of the man, then get in touch. Would gladly help.

Anyone else got any memories of Funso Banjo?
Was that his real name? It doesn't sound like a typical Nigerian name maybe it was changed or shortened for his Boxing career.
Does anyone here think he could have done well against a young Frank Bruno?

Old news, but Banjo's real name is Koyote Babafunso Banjo, and he was the son of a Nigerian Chief. Yes he could've troubled Bruno, but we'll never know, yes he did get himself disqualified rather than lose, and no he didn't return to lead 'his tribe'. Please get your facts right if you are going to post something in the public domain, thanks.

He lives near me, in East London. His sons are members of a Dance group 'Diversity' which won a competition called 'Britain's got Talent' in the last couple of years. I think he has a part of the Dance Studio they work out of, on the A1306. Nice bloke, always wearing a grin, sometimes see him in Tesco.
