i feel sorry for rahman. just watched the fight live and he won that by at least 3 rounds. his jab won him the fight. dont know what the judges who scored a draw were watching. rahman deserves to be called the man, but because of the crap scoring will probably miss his chance.

What a fornicating farce. Seemed to me that they already had the rematch fight set before the 12th round.

The ref was bloody awful though, he allowed Rahman to use an open glove pushed into Toney's face, forearm to the face (throughout the fight) and to get away with the worst case of continual kidney punching I've seen in a long time. Who was he? Anyone know?

Eddie Cotton.He also refereed Lewis-Tyson.

yeah well it's not the first time toney's got lucky is it? mccallum 2 (& possibly I), reggie johnson, dave tiberi and apparently the great terry mcgroom...i wish this had happened to toney a long time ago. a great fighter but it's atrocious that someone can come into a world title fight like that

Rahman deserved the win, and also i picked him to win, so i would have looked like i knew what i was talking about

Since this was a draw, does Rahman, as the Interim champion, get to 'keep' the title, treating it as a defence, or is the title still viewed as vacant, with Rahman still only Interim champion?

Doesn't Rahman keep his title and have to defend against Oleg Maskaev next?

he's not the interim champ he's the actual wbc champ. you'll notice how a lot of the american journos/fight writers who made a big deal out of Vitali K winning the same belt against the undeserving Sanders and Lennox Lewis becoming champ while sat on a beach in Jamaica are surprisingly quiet on the subject of an American heavy being GIVEN the title for doing f-all.

He actually won the interim belt by beating Barrett, these were the #1 and #2 contenders - so not exactly underserved. Why should he have to fight another eliminator when Vitali retired. It would render the whole interim shambles as pointless.

Would like to see this fight, apparently according to the cards the fight was Toney's to lose in the last - he was up on 2 of the cards, but lost the last round.

From what I have been reading, imaging the controvesy if Toney would have won.

So Rahman can look at himself as the WBC champ, a defence, of some sort anyway, under his *cough* belt, and can continue as a 'normal' champ would do, defending against Maskaev etc.

Rahman said he'd fight whoever, Toney or Maskaev...so who knows.

It was a typical Toney fight. Rahman was alot busier, but Toney the much more accurate. When Toney landed it was an obvious clean punch for all to see. I think thats how the scoring difference came to be.

toney has been a fool to carry so much weight. you can't just old man someone and expect him to move forward and fight your fight. he looked so good at 217 and even better at 190. this man has let himself go. maybe this is the wakeup call he needs, but you know, for all his brilliance Toney has always ended up letting his fans down. I dunno idf he eserved to lose, draw or even win, but Toney should've been able to dominate Rahman with his skills. i know Rahman's had Toney in his sights for a while, and wanted to be the man to take Toney down as he felt insulted that a smaller guy would move up and get all cocky.

personally, I'd like to see Calvin Brock step up. He's a very controlled guy, has shown he can handle a giant (McCline), and has just scored a nasty KO (v Zuri Lawrence). I like the way he counter punches, sort of reminds me of a s/m Toney the way he lured Lawrence onto his counters.

it was a closer fight than a lot are saying, I really don't mind the draw. Toney came back well and won most of the late rounds after falling behind, I certainly didn't agree with Lederman's typically ridiculous scoring of the fight (which always seems to boil dawn to: boxer a missed more punches in the round than boxer b so he wins the round). Rahman fought smart though so credit to him to showing he can stick to a gameplan. IMO Toney can beat Rahman if in better shape.

I think Lederman and his daughter are both losing it...Lederman is consistently misscoring rounds for dumb reasons. Fighter A will have like 3 more punches landed, but Fighter B threw 16 more punches and badly whiffed on all of them, but he was busier and thus won the round. Far too much credit from him for wrokrate and not enough on landrate.

He does not deserve to be called The Man for a lacklustre performance against a fat, short, steroid-addicted middleweight with accute withdrawal sympoms.

Besides, the draw suffices for him to keep the WBC belt that he never earned.

The style that Toney fights, you can almost make a case that Toney turns his back to his opponent. So I don't mind it when a fighter shoots shots to the back of Toney. Especially when Toney is squared around in that 90 degree fashion. So I don't fault Rahman for hitting Toney in the back, where as Rahmans punches any other time would be landing square on the side of a regular standing opponent.

Hey, it's protect yourself at all times. If you don't want to get hit in the back, then don't show your opponent your back! Plain and simple!



At least Rahman retains his belt, so now he can move on and face Maskaev.
