Its not going to be Collazo - according to fightnews.

Apparently the WBA Welterweight champion has broken his hand aswell.

Here is the piece.

There is still no sign of an announcement of an opponent for Ricky Hatton for the US portion of the doubleheader to be featured on HBO although promoter Dennis Hobson has confirmed a fight with WBA welterweight champion Luis Collazo may be unlikely. He confirmed to Fightnews.com that he underestands Collazo has a broken hand and that may rule him out for the May 13th penciled date. Hobson met with Team Hatton in Monte Carlo this weekend where the family were watching Ricky's Jr-middleweight brother Matthew Hatton. Hobson and Fight Academy hope to make an announcement this week.

---------------

Mmmm.... I wonder what this will mean to the WBA Welterweight belt, Oktay Urkal was mandatory and it has been ordered - maybe Hatton vs Urkal for the interim belt?

I would have been pleased to have seen Collazo in the other corner - been discussing with some guys who have seen him alot and they consider him better than Baldomir. They have seen Urkal in action and Collazo and tipped Collazo to win.

Hatton-Urkal would be a decent fight.

Not in 2006. I wouldn't be complaining, but would be surprised if Urkal would win a round. He hasn't looked convincing since the Harris rematch.

Why do I get the feeling that N'Dou has voodoo dolls of every fighter at 140 and 147?

So why doesn't he take Witter.

Because he'd probably break a nail and call it off the way things are going. Plus the fact that Hatton/Witter is a fight that is best placed on British soil. Unless they change location back to Britain which will cause a bit of embarassment at this stage then I don't see a Witter fight happening this time out.

Then they should have it on British soil. Better than feasting on fringe contenders and lightweights.

If they had that fight on British soil then Hatton would have to spend more time building up a repuatation in the states , which means it would be longer before he faught Mayweather .

he doesn't need a reputation, he is known for beating Tszyu. This "reputation" garbage is just another excuse for Hatton to fight more bums. He could have fought floy already but said he needed 2 more fights.

Different thing entirely. McCullough was based in the USA, residing in Las Vegas and rarely fought in Britain at that point. He had a firm US following to the curiosity interest that Hamed had at that point unlike Witter who has nothing established on US soil.

Hatton and Witter on the other hand are both firmly established as fighters of the British scene. Neither have had a huge deal of exposure on US soil. Hatton has only fought in the US twice in his early career and Witter only once. The rivalry has been built on British soil, it is a battle to determine the best in Britain and would sell far more tickets and be marketed better if it was held on British soil.

Wasn't McCullough based in Las Vegas though for the best part of his career? (I'm not sure but I know his later/current years are)

The americans saw Witter beat a credible challenger Ndou. they know how good Ndou is, the know how good Hatton is. They WANT to see Witter step in and were not happy when hatton turned him down.

Lirva - I think you are exaggerating what the Amercians think of Witter. LEt's face it, he can hardly sell a ticket here, he is even less well known in the US.

The Americans saw highlights vs Ndou and only brief ones.

The fight has only been shown in full in the Uk.

Yes, and lest we forget, Witter was booed lustily during the fight by the crowd. Not sure why really, but for some reason they just didn't take to him.

I think those of us with any experience of dealing with Americans know that the general populace doesn't believe things happen unless the TV pictures are beamed to them from their own country.

Witter- Hatton is a British fight, it only makes sense to hold it in Britain.

Someone called hitman_hatton (not the 1 who posts here) claiming to have inside info said it would be Harris and venues would be changed to Boston.

Yea Hatton-Witter would only work here.

Why on earth Boston? Not exactly the biggest fight town in the world is it? Isn't Harris based in Chicago or Detroit?

Might have had something to do with them remembering the Judah fight .

If I remember right they started booing when he was showboating. He did that thing where he stood sideways in a crouched position and kept lunging at N'Dou and backed him all the way up without throwing a punch and then scored a beautiful knockdown after it. I remember being impressed by it but remember the Americans booing right up until the surprise knockdown.

Remains to be seen if it was real 'inside info' I don't know if Hatton himself knows who hes going to get next.

I still think he should get a mandatory out of the way (Rabah or M'Baye) and be done with it. A "big" fight isn't an option at this point -- so take something so he can keep the belts around his waist.
