POW! fight over, Tyson wins

Thats pretty much how I see it as well!

...a much tougher fight...tyson against the guy who got cooney into the ring...

In this case Coony had everything it takes to make for a a pretty good thud as he hits the canvas sometime in the first two rounds. He would not have the defense, the jaw or the right fight plan to tangle with this particular opponent.

Ill take Prime Tyson over anyone not named Ali or Holmes. Ill catch slack for that statement but it is what I WANT to believe!

Prime Cooney, I'd say was between the Norton, Young and Holmes fights.

Prime Tyson...possibly before he met Robin Givens, cus after Givens it seemed he lost his skills, and more or less became a head hunter always going for the KO and would take too many shots, and would do illegal tactics. Possibly when he faced either Michael Spinks, or better yet when he faced Larry Holmes was when Tyson was at his best---cus Spinks was terrified of Tyson, least Larry made a fight out of it.

Cooney, if he perpetually stayed on the move and swung that battle axe of a left hook and jab, he would fair better I think than what most would credit him for. What most people keep over looking is Cooney fought harder in defeat, you would have to really hurt Gerry Cooney to keep him off you.

Plus, all of Cooney's loses were to Hall of Famers, the Foreman loss was a mistake, Gerry should have retired years ago---Spinks fight was a mistake as Gerry wasn't even ranked, as he was retired and had a drug problem---and even before Spinks knocked him out it was a close fight.

Tyson lost to Douglas, Holyfield, Lewis, Danny Williams and McBride. 3 of the 5 are not Hall of Fame material obviously.

I won't say Cooney would win, cus he more than likely wouldn't cus if Holmes gave him a hard fight, Tyson would have gave him hell. Way I see it, Holmes in my opinion is a better fighter than Tyson skill wise---and it went 13 rounds.

But since Tyson is quicker and helluva harder puncher, let's cut it down to half of the Holmes fight, be almost 7 rounds---but add on Cooney's heart and iron will---I'd say it would go maybe 8 or 10.

Cooney knew how to use his height to his advantage, and it can be argued before Tyson came around, Cooney had the single hardest punch of the 80's.

This reminds me of the Wepner/Ali fight...and in quote of a banner posted all over America: "GIVE THE WHITE GUY A BREAK!"

I think Cooney would have been a far more formidable test than what a Tubbs, Smith, Carl Williams (The Truth), Renaldo Snipes, Tyrell Biggs ever would have been.

before Robin Givens? Thats absurd,Tyson's prime ended 100% definately post-Rooney. Clearly you can see the difference between styles (head hunter), discipline (composure, shape), and hunger, IN THE EXACT NEXT FIGHT. Contrary to popular belief, Tyson lost his most of his money when King liquidated him when he was in jail, not Givens. Plus Tyson wasn't exactly an accountant either.

Well after he lost to Douglas the gold digging whore left soon afterwards now didn't she? And ever since then he hit an all time low and never again became the dominating force he was.

Other than the Frank Bruno fight, he never really fought a real challenger, and to say Bruno was a true challenger is absurd as he never faced anybody of any real salt---and Tyson was shook up a few times while facing Bruno. He used illegal tactics and everything to turn Bruno inside out.

Before that bitch he was okay, but yes I could see the deterioration even before then...and maybe it all went to shit the very day he beat Berbick, as Don King walked over his fallen fighter and hugged Tyson. But Givens made him even worse, he relied soley on his snarl and brute force any more after he met up with her.

No more was there head movement as often, no more the bobbing and weaving---he got caught a helluva lot.

Yeh Givens was abused....what a joke. I remember she actually stood in front of a TV camera in an interview saying how Mike Tyson hit her with a closed fist....that is just too laughable!! Had he actually hit her as she claimed, he would have killed her. He was KOing guys 3 times her size....she must have been one tough dame!! To take those shots. She was a gold digging whore.

Cooney in one punch terms may of hit even harder than Tyson but Tyson overall is still the far greater puncher and fighter.

Cooney however wasnt the most confident man and he would probably crumble mentally but this wont be such as mis-match as everyone else thinks as Cooney could still whack and could hurt Tyson like Ruddock did.

Who said Tyson was in his prime against Williams or McBride? Thats just crazy talk.

Whoops, I was meant to say 'some'. All the extreme Tyson-haters say and hold the Mcbride and Williams losses against him. So if thats case why dont we all hold the Ali's losses to Spinks and Berbick, or Shavers loss to Yates etc.
