Say if someone with a lot of money behind him such as a Bill Gates kinda guy took up an interest in boxing and wanted to buy out the WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO and merge them into one organisation would it be possible or is there a bunch of legal mumbo jumbo preventing such a thing?

The US dept of Justice would probably have a field day with Bill Gates trying to monopolize Boxing, eventhough it would by far be much better than the shit we have now.

Way I see it, it should be like every other sport. You have 1 world body, 1 continental body and 1 national body. Like in Football you have FIFA, UEFA and the FA. Boxing should be the World title with no organisation name above it, the EBU and then national titles.

But do the Football governing bodies make an ass raping every match they sanction? The bodies in boxing make a killing for doing nothing but saying, "Ok, you can fight".

Well, they do a bit more than that, to be fair they do organise insurance, medicals, and various other things for fighters, but the idea that they are non profit making is frankly nonsense.

A great, fantastic dream.

But as soon as someone got everyone together, within a week there would be someone setting up a smaller rival.

But this could be prevented if boxing itself refused to let it happen. But, like all walks of life, money means more than decency and quality.

People only really pay attention to the top 4 I think. I wonder if there is some legal ground for a unified governing body to approach the courts and have it made that no other organisation can call their title a "world" title. I never understood how this happens in boxing really, you don't see organisations setting up rival World Cups. France failed to win FIFAs so they'll try their hand at ABCs and unify with Brazil at a latter date.

Another thing that pisses me off is voluntaries. I think if you are deemed world champion then every fight should be a mandatory determined by a ranking system that has a visible score system on how fighters are ranked and why with at least 1 defense every 8 months.

Also, I'd get rid of the money grubbers AKA Promoters. As far as I know no prize money is distributed by the governing bodies, no significant amount anyway. In other sports such as Golf and Snooker you get set amounts for how much you achieve. In my ideal world all boxing events around the world would be promoted by a universal governing body with a percentage of all events being put towards prize money. If you want to fight you scheduale it on one of these events. The body would control the money and not exceed a certain amount at low levels. You'd have a structure where you'd probably get a something like 2 million for winning the world title and then 2 million for every defense afterwards. This set rate of payment would prevent a lot of ducking that occurs from people demanding too much.

With this you could also bring in better health care and the like and all fighters would be on an equal footing and it would be up to ability not negotiations how much money you make and with only one title you'd have a lot more super fights.
