Haye is breaking down Johanssen, Johansan's face is a mess cuts over both eyes. We are in round 8.

Haye lands a bomb that shakes the Dane, Dane goes back, Haye moves in with flurry and ref jumps in. All over Haye W KO8

It was a beautiful right uppercut that started the assault for Haye.

what was your card prior to stoppage? seems like johanssen represented himself well.

Haye was in control for most of the fight but the Dane was a tough one who kepts coming forward.

I dont think Haye lost more than 1 round.

thanks. I'm impressed johanssen did as well as he did. he didn't have a very impressive resume. I'd like to see haye get in with bell, or dale brown.

i thought he lost the 3rd and 4th and won the rest.

we saw the good and bad in haye tonight. he gutted it out and proved he could come thru it and take some good whacks. :box: his defence needs improving though.

his guard is too open.

Probably lost the 6th too. TBH I wasn't much interested in the fight.

Commentators where going over the top, Johannsen never won a round. Remember David Haye started off against Carl Thompson the exact same way, but then he went totally overboard and tried to keep the same punching pace and gassed out. He didn't want to make the same mistake here, even if he could have finished him in round 3 had he stepped it up.

Anyway, that guy took some big shots, not many guys would have stood up to that.

After his blistering start it was it went to sleep.

Johannsen I felt could of gone on, he shrugged off Hayes attack and mouthed something and got distracted by the ref and Haye jumped on him, but he was Ok.

Haye was well ahead but it really showed what a 2rnd fighter David is, everything just went to sleep after that.

He is nowhere near Bell, sure he may wobble Bell early, just like he could wobble any cruiser, but up at world class they give some back...and will work you harder :x

When a boxer chooses to stand between rnd it gives me a warning type of opinion...an old George Foreman stood between rnds :-?

Ali used to stand between rounds. I didn't see the fight but I am not supprised it was more competitive than everyone thought, the guy was in good shape and had spent a long time prepering for Haye, it strikes me that haye was proberbly doing a lot more general training and trying to learn new skills in the american set up with the help from the Cuban traner. The other guy didn't have a bad record and had good ametre pedagree. Its strange if a fight is finished in two rounds haye is a two round fighter and there are question marks, after 8 he should have got the guy out earlier.

Booth mentioned 3 more fights then a title shot oveer on the seconds out round up. Haye Hobson would be my choice to get the rounds in, then maybe a yank then possibly Brown.

If I remember correctly Jirov stood between every round against Tony too, some fighters prefer it as your lungs can fully open and breathing is easier to control.

He basically quit though didn't he? I don't mean that in a bad way i thought he turned to the ref and said he didn't want anymore, his eye was sliced to pieces and he probably didn't want anymore of it, the anger he showed afterwards wasn't at being stopped but at Haye punching through the ref after he had showed he wanted out. Good ref by the way, the Italian Guido Cavalleri always does a good job when i have seen him in charge.

As for the fight itself i thought Haye paced himself well, all this talk of him blasting Johansen away was nonsense for me. I usually like Johnny Nelson but his "you don;t get paid for overtime" was a tired statement, even though Haye knows he can do 12 rounds in gym i think going 8 here did him no harm at all. That's if Haye really does think he can go the full 12 because personally i think he has doubts like the rest of us. He used Johansen as a fighter to get past the psychological point of the fifth and into the later stages of a fight, that will help his confidence...doing it in the gym is one thing but going the rounds with a live challenger is another.

I worry about Haye if he was put in with a pressure fighter, when he is on the front foot and dictating matters at his own pace he looks world class, the jab was strong and fast, the left hook was working and his speed was lightning, when he gets put under pressure he doesn't look quite so fluent. He took a few unnecessary shots and gave the Dane a chane he didn't have granted but i think the 8 rounds was a confidence boost for him, can he do the 12 under intense pressure? In against a guy like Glen Johnson hunting him down round after round i fear he would fold. So blasting this guy away wouldn't have done him any favours at all IMO.

I Didn't think he quit, i thought he was saying he could take it and looked angry after being stopped.
Anyway a good win for the Hayemaker but he needs a couple more fight's imo before he goes for O'Neil Bell.
Maybe he should watch Johnny Nelson's post fight comment's and have a go with him, as i agree Nelson was rarther harsh to say the least.

My take on the stoppage is that, after Haye landed some telling punches in round eight, Johansen looked at Haye and shook his head, as if to say "muscular nemesis, you punch like a girl and I am still going to take you into deep waters and drown you my friend", but unfortunately for the Dane, he was also facing the referee as well as Haye when he shook his head, and the referee took the gesture to say, "alas, I can take no more abuse, rescue me from my gallantry". At that point, the referee came rushing in to wave it off, but Haye managed to land one or two more big punches at the same moment.

I'd given the challenger the 3rd, 4th and 6th, and scored another level, so it seemed to be all to play for before the stoppage came.

tbh at the time I thought he was shaking his head at the ref, it's a pity they didn't ask him about it afterwards.

This is what I meant, if the question marks about Davids stamina are correct then....

Standing between rnd and the trainer fanning the towel on a fighter just gives me the impression the fighter is tired.

Ali standing between rnds, was this an old Ali?

The judges had Haye up by 5, 3 & 1 point after round 7.

1 point??? What the fornicate was that judge watching?? Johannsen was the one coming foward, but he hardly landed anything at all and his face was being pulverised by Haye's jab. I guarantee Haye landed more punches in every single round...

Have to check my notes, but think I had Haye 2 up, there were couple of quiet rounds I scored even which could have gone either way.

I think Haye needs to up his workrate a bit, he needs to find a balance between the all out aggression he showed against Thompson, and his tendency to stand and pose and wait for openings.

Against a big powerful cruiserweight who can exert pressure, he will have a hard time. I want to see him fight Hobson, because I think Haye will have a testing time against him.

Haye can be timed by the right hand as he has no guard and not much head movement. His footwork is decent though and he can slip shots well when he is moving.

Johannseen had his moments, but he just didn't have the power to make it count.

Unsure about the stoppage, I thought at the time that Johannsen looked a bit sickened by the blows he was taking, and did seem to turn away and shake his head, but he may have been shaking his head to indicate Haye wasn't hurting him.

Hard to tell if Haye was getting some rounds in or whether he just couldn't put the punches together to make a dent in Johannsen.

Overall a B performance.

I get the feeling Haye calls all the shots in that corner anyway, i can just imagine it:

Adam Booth "Sit down David"

David Haye "No i want to stand"

Adam Booth "Ok stand up"

Followed by back slapping and whooping from the others in his corner.
