Forgive me for being doubtful about the opponent here, but guys who are taken to MD's against Sam Reese don't fill me with a whole lot of confidence. Maybe Freheit or Bubi have seen him against Stieglitz?

He's not even rated in the WBO's top #15, for which all you require is a good promoter and a bogov voucher from Waterstones. I don't know how far down the road the propsed Erdei-Tiozzo got, but this isn't that a late replacement is it? IMO Erdei needs to move it on a bit

What else would you expect from Universum...grab a title and hide it, taking the validity of boxing with it...

I has hopes for Erdei after the Gonzalez win, he looked a world class operator that night. However after two close ones with Garay and a war with Sahnoune maybe his handlers are thinking he isn't as good as we first anticipated, the opponent would probably indicate this.

Close ones with Garay? They were not close, Garay won clearly.

Adamek would kick the shit out of him, and Erdei knows it, and so does Universum. That would be the best fight seeing as Adamek would be cheapest now, at least cheaper than if he beats Briggs again or another title holder in the near future.

Erdei is complacent with fighting stiffs, and Universum is the perfect promoters for him to continue doing so. He'll hide his linear title out in Germany, and never venture out to big name fights, until he's ready to retire and get his head caved in.

My thoughts exactly - against Gonzalez he looked awesome - an almost punch perfect performance. Since then he has looked ordinary.

I would still pick him to beat Woods though.

it's when you give Erdei room to manouevre, he's very clever and seems to have a great feeling for angles and ring space. Woods vs Erdei would be interesting.

I can hardly remember the Stieglitz-fight.

You are absolutely right, Zsolti needs to step up. With those opponents he won´t sell tickets as a champion. he needs Regina Halmich to have a good audience. he needs a big fight vs Tiozzo or Woods to prove his abilities. otherwise he tends to become a paper champ.

on the other hand this division is actually the weakest one from middle to heavy. I only see Adamek as a real good champion. We don´t have that much young good talents as we have in middle or even in super midddle, heavy and cruiser. let´s see what happens this year.

Have you seen Garay in other fights? Can't say I have. Looked the business against Erdie twice, his pressure is relentless, decent technique and strong with reasonable power. Hes the Ricky Hatton of the light heavies. I hope he gets another title shot he deserves 1. Adameks good but hes hardly the unbeatable force hes painted as Garay would back him up and give him problems imo

Kurzawa is the typical Wolke-Maske-GDR-Amateur-Boxer, horrible. Same as Häussler......

Looks like a change of opponent. Barashin is off. Paul Murdoch was the changed opponent when I had a look this morning, but posting this now it's back to perrenial #1 contender TBA.

Garay is ok. throws a lot of punches, very little power in 'em. if Erdei's not going to fight anyone good after all this time then i hope one of his mediocre challengers knocks him out
