What Hatton-Collazo are earning!

The fight between Ricky Hatton and Luis Collazo is signed, sealed and delivered. "Although we are not content with the offer Banner Promotions gave us, we are taking the fight anyway," Collazo's manager/trainer Nirmal Lorick told Fightnews.com. Lorick has just arrived back in The Big Apple from Deerfield Beach, Florida, where the deal was finalized at Don King Productions headquarters on Saturday. "We will take less to get more on the flip side," explained Lorick. "A lot of people point their fingers at Don King and they say Don King is a bad guy, but Don King was doing the most that he could for us....if it's not Luis, it would be someone else. We're going to show the world that Luis belongs in the same ring with Ricky Hatton and when we beat Ricky Hatton, then we'll talk." The offer put on the table for Collazo was $500,000. Hatton is earning $2.9 million. The bout will take place on May 13 at the TD Banknorth Garden (a.k.a. FleetCenter) in Boston. Collozo will train for the bout in Atlanta, Georgia and leaves today.
I do believe Hatton is earning a bit more than against Maussa. I'm sure he earned $2.7m for Maussa?
Providing Hatton wins, I wonder who's next?
I just hope determining the opponent Hatton faces will not be a farce for everyone to see like it was in this instance. It went on & on, etc!

Hattons preparation has been problematic, and the failure to secure an opponent quickly wont help.
I want Ricky to win, but his style doesnt make for a long career.
I wouldnt be surprised if Collazo beats him, worth a few bob I reckon

Fightnews has the news on money
Collazo $500,000

they also say Collazo's people didn't like the offer but took the fight anyway.

$2.9 million for fighting almost an unknown? I dread to think what he would get for fight Mayweather.

Been thinking the same. Keep having thoughts of him getting caught, soon.
Collazo is no great shakes and Ricky should get past him, but what with all the bollocks that has gone on with his team, coupled with his usual preparation... I think it could all go unexpectedly wrong in what would be a massive tits up. Just a thought at this stage though.

Great money for Hatton. And only Collazo title is at stake.

I'd say he'll vacate at 140, skip over Rabah and go for the big money unification with Gatti should both of them win.

I think Collazo is in with a shout. I thought he looked impressive against (albeit a shot) Gonzalez and he was the last guy I thought Hatton would wind up facing but I suppose it makes sense with Hatton struggling at Light Welterweight and Collazo's title being upgraded

.
If Hatton is having a bad camp and is overlooking Collazo who is southpaw and carries good power it could turn out to be a hard nights work for Ricky

I understand what people are saying but Hatton had a shite preparation (court case) for Maussa and still produced the goods.

when that bell goes ricky hatton is pure fighter.

no outside distractions will put paid to him becoming a 2 weight title holder on may 13th.
looks like i'm gonna have to get in touch with red dragon and get him to tape a collazo fight or two.

Hatton is on way more than that. Try doubling it.

What so now Ricky is the new six million dollar man?! Jesus....not bad for taking on a light punching unknown. Plus his titles aren't even on the line.
Hope he does the decent thing and sends Frank & boxingchat two free tickets.
All that cash you'd think he was taking on a dangerman like Cotto or Zab even - what will be the odds here - 5-1 Hatton?
Other guy could be worth a bet though - bigger than Hatton and might pull of a Raheem / Medina type surpise, if he can box a bit.

What does he know about doing the decent thing? As for free tickets, I wouldn't cross the road to piss on him if were on fire let alone mug myself off like he did at the MEN by accepting a freebee!
And, if any of you lot think Collazo has a shout of winning then you must be 'king crazy. This is the easiest fight Hatton could have picked. 3 rounds max unless Hatton is in really poor shape which I doubt.
Have any of you actually seen Collazo fight beofre you make judgement?

No haven't seen him fight, just heard he can box a bit ( you'd hope ) plus Hatton hasn't had the ideal run up to this and his motivation isn't gonna be sky high here either...
Not sure if that TKO loss was down to his chin or injury as yet.
Joking about the tickets of course, I was really surprised he took the free ones Frank offered too - that took some front.

Might put a bet on Collazo if the odds are big as apparently he's a bit of a slickster (haven't seen him personally) and we still haven't seen Ricky fight a good one and avoided fights with Corley and Witter a few years back which would have improved his profile

I've only ever seen Collazo once - against Miguel Angel Gonzalez. Gonzalez was old, not in the best shape, and had a very poor workrate. Even at his peak he never had much of a defence so he certainly wasn't capable of a journeyman's survival skills; he was basically used as a DKP punch-bag.
Collazo has a good workrate but doesn't start slick. He doesn't protect himself well with his lead hand - which is his right. He is also vulnerable to catching single shots square on the chin. He has little to no lateral movement and circles right 95% of the time. Hatton will catch him easy (remember it was a left hook that KO'd Maussa), however I'm not convinced about Hatton's one punch power against a welterweight. Should be okay but we'll wait and see.
I actually thought Collazo was best up close, in the trenches. Even though he looked vulnerable and easy to catch, he met fire with fire and came to fight - obviously into the whole Boricua pride deal. This is where queston marks about the fight set in: if Hatton doesn't bang him out and Collazo warms up, both literally and mentally, he will meet Ricky head on with 3/4/5+ punch combinations to body and head.
I said after the Maussa fight that Ricky could have won much, much cleaner had he boxed throughout like he did in the later rounds instead of mashing in on his toes. If he takes until the later rounds to sort himself out this time I think he could be in danger between 6-8. My pick is still Hatton by KO but these are just thoughts I've been having the past few days. :P

Good on Ricky. Frank never paid him anything like 2.9m

Double that according to J Dillinger above - who seems to be a reliable source for all things Hatton 8)

Interesting to hear your take there.....wonder if the extra weight will play a part in this or not.
After all said and done, Fight Academy have pulled this one out of the fire at long last.

Thats in dollars and I think he probably has earned more than that in pounds.

As usual with the Hatton's purse figures are being misrepresented by his frontmen....In today's M.E.N Hatton say's he is earning "Three times whet he got to fight Kostya Tszyu"
Regardless of the obvious fact that Tszyu was the champion and brought American TV with him and was also the P4P champion these figures and his quote in the MEN seriously contradict each other.
Warren paid Hatton a gross purse of £1,250,000.00 to fight Kostya Tszyu as the challenger in Manchester and paid Tszyu far in excess of that making it a very expensive fight so that Hatton would get the best possible chance to actually win the fight. Unfortunately, Tszyu did not come for a paultry or $500,000.00 as Collazo claims to be doing.
Anyway, my point being....three time's £1,250,000.00 equates to £3,750,000.00 which, at today's dollar rate of 1.70, is a purse of $6,375.000, is it not?
So, how can the Hatton's and his flunky promoters make such a bold statement in the MEN today when at the same time they proudly announce everywhere else that he is earning a "career best payday of $2,900,000.00?"
It appears, as usual the Hatton's are conning people.
