THE RING: Clay or Ali?

Did founder, editor and publisher Nat Fleischer have some beef against referring to Muhammad Ali as Ali? Even after Cassius Clay changed his name to Ali in 1964, THE RING continued to refer to him as Clay. Only until shortly after Fleischer died in June 1972, with the December 1972 issue, did THE RING finally start referring to "Muhammad Ali."
