Im not on about Amir-fcukin-Khan & Hatton etc, im interested to see what kind of payday does the likes of David Haye recieve for defending his european title in York Hall?

What did Matt Skelton or Danny Williams recieve for their british title fight?

What kind of cabbage are we really talkin? What about a low profile fight? I heard when Mike Holden upset Jules in a half empty York Hall he scraped less than 10K...?

Anyone got the inside track?

Haye would've got a fair wedge.

Skelton v Williams was for the Commonwealth title. The British became vacant went Skelton lost.

Does it matter?

I know plenty of lower rung pros who hold down full time jobs. Boxing pays for the family holiday or christmas...its a bonus to their income, not the sole source.

Haye got circa £100k the other night
Williams got £50k v Skelton...

I got these from another pro so i assume they are fairly accurate

£100K? seriously? I would have thought more like £30K..... I mean the opponent was unknown in this country and was a 10-1 outsider.

If he got £100 K his manager deserves a serious pat on the back - he is not even a bg name to the public (at least Williams is well known.)

Did Hatton not do Coronation Street, he skint as well. Robbie Williams done Eastenders to pay for his Gas Bill did he?

I think you will find that Holden gives alot of his money to the Church which is commendable but obviously affordable.

2. Youngest ever World Heavyweight Champion and global superstar.
3. Unified World Champion with massive box-office appeal.
4. Tough, but average Heavyweight, sold no tickets, zero appeal, zero charisma who lost to a few equally average fighters.

Secondly, Tyson earned $300/400M is he financially secure?

Holden done better than many fighters much better than him for being in the right pace at the right time. Is he complaining?

Riches are rewarded for acheivements. Sadly, Holden did not reach the heights of financial security due to his losses. However, man have earned millions and are now skint. Is that the fault of anyone but themselves?

Geoff Mccreesh got something like £27k for his european title challenge a few years back.

Michael Gomez got £17k for fighting Alex Arthur.

I think Nicky Booth was earning about £30k per defence of his british title.

These sums were reported in Boxing News.


It would be interesting to know what kind of cash journeymen like the Smith twins and Peter Buckley get. They must make quite a bit of moolah when fighting about 20 times a year....

is this after deductions? most boxers i talk to say they keep about 50% -60% of a purse they are getting.

How do sanction fees work, is it the promoter or boxer that pays them to the ruling bodies?

I remember having this discussion with someone a while back, don't the board pass on the sanctioning fees if the fight is staged on UK soil?
