I think this happens to be more competitive than it seems. Witherspoon had a great jab and a terrific right hand, but often was not all there mentally.
All in all, Charles wins a close unanimous decision, but Witherspoon has his moments.

I am not suggesting that this would be a KO round 1. I am only suggesting that the outcome is pretty assured. Ezzard's skills would simply allow him to get and keep the upperhand and navigate his way to a certain win.
But just like when any two great NFL teams meet anything can happen when assessing a theoretical like this you have to go with skill averages. But a lucky punch has often spelled doom for the best of prophets in the boxing realm. Smart money is on Ezzard, but there is no sure money in boxing. ...... Well except for the promoters.

Ok I feel the same way. Still, I pick Ezzard just like you.

Someday Decagon your going to show me how you come up odds tables like that. I thought that was pretty good but how the hell do you compute that? Is that off the top of your head or are you running some data through some software to come up with that?

Hmm ok well then just theoretically if Byrd walks in with a sledgehammer or a chain saw would that change the algorhythms dramatically?
You don't have to answer I just aways wanted to use that work in a post here. Not even sure I spelled it right. And I think it's probably a stretch to consider these calculations as algorhythyms.

A prime Witherspoon for one fight only against Charles would have been trouble.
I see it going to the wire, but would say a prime Tim had the edge at HW.
I wouldnt rule out a draw, but if Tim landed the overhand right. Bingo.

Timmy had that big right hand & some skills. I think he would win via TKO.

funny how tim never knocked out a legite fighter. tony tubbs, pniklon thomas, greg page, bonecrusher smith, etc they all were able to take his best shots.
im sure if charles can take rocky marciano, joe louis, elmer rays , jersey joe walcotts(well except that incredible shot), bob satterfields, nino valdes, archies moores best, than he can certainly take tim witherspoons best. ezzard charles had a good chin.
- ezzard could take tim witherspoons best.

...ezzard had a degree in applied hooking off a jab...boxing from the outside or inside...terrific right hand and giving away pounds...and alot of them....as a matter of course.
...oh dear...why do i bother when the buzzmeister gets there first and puts it so well?
(this mutual admiration society can crumble when lamotta and monzon appear on the same thread.)

If Tim comes in trim and conditioned, in the right frame of mind and brings his best game Charles outboxes him and wins a comeptitive fight.
