disappointed with Brewster

I am a big Brewster fan so am a little pissed that he has come in 232 for tomorrows fight. This is about 7lbs over his best fighting weight and he looks a little chubby around the waist.
Hope he has done the work to get the job done...
We really need a dominant heavy...

I saw a picture of him training with McGirt, and he looked fat as fuckries, big flabby gut hanging over his shorts.

Brewster needs to maintain a high punch output to be effective. The White Wolf has been out for so long, Brewster has probably taken his foot off the gas in training.
McGirt is probably my favourite trainer in the game though, I expect him to have Brewsetr in shape.
If you haven't seen it, get a copy of McGirt's win over a weight drained Simon Brown. As complete a boxing lesson as you will ever see.

Maybe it's this long line of white heavies he's been feasting on, just can't get himself motivated 8) .

Well, he certainly looks like he's eaten a few.

He's a disgrace, 7lbs over Matt? He's got at the very least 10-15lbs he could shift with a bit of hard work and good nutrition. I hope he loses.

i was being generous.... he was obviously in shape (even if he looked a little soft) against Klit and he was about 225 for that one..
but you are right he could quite easily drop 10-15lbs, whether that would be an effective thing to do is a different matter...

An excert from a recent Fightnews interview with Buddy McGirt. He comments on Lamon’s conditioning when he arrived in camp two months ago:
Q. What was the first thing you worked on with him?
A. The first thing was getting the weight off. Lamon was heavy. That's all I'm going to say... he was HEA-VEE.
That’s disappointing to say the least. Why do so many modern heavies find it impossible to keep to a respectable weight between fights? It smacks of laziness.

McGirt is looking like a heavyweight these days himself, he's really piled the weight on.
It's odd. You very rarely see retired runners balooning in weight, and most footballers keep in shape, but boxers seem to get HUGE when they retire.
I guess the difference is, retired runners still run for fun, and retired footballers play sunday leagues, but retired boxers can't really fight for fun.

I was going to say though, apparently Lyaskhovich isn't a svelt nymph himself at times - 240 against Guinn and his 2nd last opponent.
And in this picture he looks a bit saggy and undefined himslef. Are Danny Williams and James Toney the new role models for the heavyweights of today?

Same thing happened to Fenech when he became a trainer, though I think he has his gut back in check these days. It is a strange phenomenon.

What retired footballers play sunday league? Plus plenty of them put on weight. Just look at some of the ones that have become managers.
When Hatton retires do you think he will perhaps look into sumo?

Pat Cowdell doesnt look much over his fighting weight these days.
A hugely underrated fighter is Pat. What an effort he put up against Sanchez.

Harder than Danny Williams?

Lots of footballers carry on playing for fun. My uncle used to play in a team called the Zoo Gang with former England international Les Strong, who now runs Marathons for a laugh, and a lot of his England teammates used to do the same.
Look at Linker, Lawrenson and Hansen, not exactly fat are they?
Sure, some football managers put on weight, but not to the extent of say Roberto Duran who is well over 200 lbs these days. Managers don't really have the time to play football as their jobs are pretty much non stop.
Of course there is Diego Maradonna, but he's an exceptional case.
Of course there are some fighters who keep in shape, but there are plenty who don't. McGuigan for instance still looks as fit as a butchers dog, and McDonnell too.

As MW pointed out recently, the once troubled Wilfredo Gomez is a hugely bloated, corpulant figure these days. He bears absolutley no resemblance whatsoever to the man he was in his fighting pomp.

He was never cut but he used to be one of the only HWs i thought could consitently stay in shape. Very disappointed in him.
I think it part of the fact is by the time these boxers get to fringe contendor level they're well paid and getting a little complacent. That combined with no weight limit and their less than frequent fight schedule adds up to blubber.
With the likes of Hatton i feel that the pendulum swings one way when he trains very very hard that when he is not in training it swings the other way and he feels he has to indulge himself to the extreme while he has the chance. You'd hope he would have have grown out of that now that he is in his late 20's & at the very peak of his career.

maybe his purse vs Luan (over 3 million euros) was too high.....
IMO Will Wladi be the one who will take the lead this year. He will win vs Byrd and and beat Valuev next. Luan will beat Brewster in the rematch and Rahman or Toney are anyway paper champs.

Wlad is damaged goods - too fragile and the worst thing is everyone knows it. He has no chance of becoming the dominant HWT force, in my eyes.
His oppenents know that if they can stand up to his bombs for a few rounds there is a good chance he will either gas, or get let down by his less then stellar chin.

Absolutely - going, going...gone. Might beat Byrd, but only because he punches like a middleweight.
No wonder Brewster looks fat - the other bloke looks like he works in a doughnut shop.
