Surprisingly crappy.
Huge natural power but truly looked like he's never been taught to box before. Lunging forward with his chin in the air. Bringing the right back like an archer. Quite horrible to watch.

His biggest cheerleader Doug on Maxboxing said he has forgotton his boxing and chased the Ko's but can he really have forgotton that much?

I think i watched him sparring on Maxboxing but i can't remember how he looked - can anyone remember if he looked so much better?

I couldn't believe how bad this guy was technically. Definetly has to work on his skills, defence, and not rely on his supreme power if he is to take on a slick world class pro.

Still though you cant argue with 19wins 19KO's must be doing something right :TU:

He actually looked quite good sparring against Morales. I'll try and get my hands on a copy.

The first decent puncher he face's will catch him and then we will see.
First look at him tonight i thought he looked very lose and very poor technique but he's got awesome power so get him a decent trainer before they stick him in with world class opposition.

Haha.....imo Edwin is no flash in the pan. Pretty much....he didn't respect that guy and was just keeping his ko record up. I seen him in sparring and some other fight and he's got lots of skills and is a VERY accurate puncher. Wait till he's in with an opponent who he really respects, THEN I guarantee gone will be the chin in the air and wild style. He's very well schooled and their's no way he would walk in with his hands down against a real opponent.

In the sparring matches and his earlier fights he come's out normal. If he had a bad defence and chin the guys in the american gyms would have tore him a new ass hole, on the contrery it was him tearing the assholes. He's reverted to this walk in puncher to keep this record up.

Anyway, I'll see if I can get the Morales sparring session up soon where he's fighting his normal style.

Valero's a hellacius hitter, not many guys will last. One of the keys to Valero and one of the differences with him and other punchers is he is NOT a head hunter. The fights ive seen of him he throws a ton of body shots and is excellent at body to head combinations.

Just watched again - his straight left is really fast and hard - it even sounds different when in connects.

Having seen Valero fight a couple of times previous i have always been surprised to hear about this sparring session people often talk about, Valero has always been a wild, walk straight in and look for the KO type of guy from what i have seen of him. Usually when he lands those big swinging hooks flush people fall down and stay down.

I thought the Japanese ref stopped it a bit early, maybe mindful of Valero's serious power Trazancos took a knee after a hurtful body shot and was taking the 8 count after being winded. The ref panicked a bit and called it off, Valero was lucky as some refs may have taken a dim view of his left hook landed when Trazancos was on one knee. That shot nearly levelled the guys head!

The shot wasn't landed on one knee ala Jones vs Griffin, he banged him just before the knee touched. He wasn't making it out of the round anyway, you don't recover from a bodyshot like that. Edwin would have came in and probably threw a body to head combo and brutally ko'ed him. Shame it was called off

It wasn't a nice shot that but him down, IMO.

Not impressed at all, crude, heavy handed (not Mayweather esque handspeed), open and did I detect a little wobble early on in the second round.

Horrible stoppage also.

Barrera will have him within 4 rounds.

Looked wild and very raw, but seemed to be a serious puncher. He should hook up with someone like Freddie Roach, hes done wonders with Pac-man.

Lol, you say "heavy handed" like its a bad thing. And no, you didn't detect a wobble. Im confident he'll go to the top. He's fighting this walk foward puncher style purely to try and get the knock out.

Yes it is a bad thing when your up against quality.... remember Jeff Lacy, remember Henry Wharton.

The guy has heavy hands, but not exactly quick hand speed.

Pacquiao was a dynamite puncher as a Super Bantamweight and was quick with it.

The difference is Danny Williams despite being good in sparring constantly disapoints even against mediocre opposition, while Valero has scored 18 first round ko's and one in the 2nd round, what more can a man do...

Ok, watch the Morales sparring session and then tell me he's slow.

The guy he fought two fights ago wasn't a stiff and it was an eliminator for a WBA title shot. Valero KO1.

What does it say about a mans power that he can destroy people with the first shots he thows? And again, unlike many punchers he is NOT a headhunter. He throws body bombs mixed up with the head shots.

Im not saying the sparring session proves he's a world beater or whatever. In his sparring its demonstrating what kind of skills he's got. Not once in the sparring did he start winging hooks like he does when he's got his opponent reeling. It showed his footwork and defence, rapier jab and laser like left cross.

And Danny Williams has fought a ton of stiffs and still looked shit. Valero's fighting 'some' stiffs, but he's taking them out in quick fashion.

Edwin Valero has HUGE power, but he's very wild, erractic, punches are telegraphed. Relying too much on his power is a dangerous game to follow.

Yes, it has worked well for him so far, he's had 19 bouts and won all of them by KO, but what happens when he fights someone who can box, punch, take a good shot etc?

As jim Watt stated, Valero's team may not be teaching him to box & are just building a record. However, he will command attention and recognition they way he's going. When someone has his power and KO streak, you have to sit up and take notice!

It will be interesting to see how he develops and whether Valero tries to improve his skills sooner or later? Has great power, though!

Just watched 3 Valero's fights on http://www.youtube.com, my first thoughts are that he gets caught with a few when goin in & that he canny do that against the division best i.e. Morales, Pac Man, MAB, Barrios etc, but you have got to respect that record he has got.

Would be nice if Valero could live up to the hype becuase he would make a good addition to what is probably the best division in boxing IMO.
