Your Fantasy upset fight.

Go against conventional wisdom. Pick an upset fight that you feel would have been possible, or one that you are certain of. Any era any division and explain it. For example if you think Butterbean could have beaten Joe Louis, explain why. Heres the thing, go ahead and disagree with someones pick, but ya gotta come up with one of your own also. Heres mine : Welterweight Billy Graham frustrates and outboxes Welterweight Roberto Duran over 15 rounds .

Ali goes down to a flash knockdown after 8 rounds of rearranging Jack Dempseys face. He gets up quickly, not realising that Dempsey is hovering over him, gets smashed back to the floor by a huge left hook. Goodnight.

Sugar Ray Leonard outpoints Sugar Ray Robinson at Welterweight.

SRL uses his marginally superior dancing skills to suprise the greatest of them all & win a narrow 15 round decision.

This one sprang to mind immediately. Jack's left hook causes an upset.

Hagler gets a rematch with the same concessions he gave Sugar Ray, but in his favor this time and kicks the shit out of Sugar Ray in a smaller ring, with a 14th round KO.

Carlos Monzon dominating Thomas Hearns until the seventh round where Hearns throws a counter right to the chin, Monzon stays up stunned Hearns throws a jab then two more rights, and Monzon takes a knee looking down, the ref waives his hands and the fight is over.

Richard Steele stops Jake Lamotta in the 11th round of a boring fight against Bernard Hopkins, seemingly helpless on the ropes, losing on points............

This is slightly different but still along the same lines. Ezzard Charles bides his time and runs in the eighth round of his rematch with Marciano. Marciano's nose, split and bleeding profusely, finally is too grotesque for the ref to stomach. The fight is stopped and Charles wins the fight by TKO, becoming the first man to regain the heavyweight title.

On a side note, the two then engage in a brutal third fight and the trilogy goes down as one of the best in boxing history. I think then we would actually have access to the full fights, not the watered down highlights of Marciano-Charles I and II that are available.

Two others: Dempsey KOs Tunney in round 7 of their rematch as the ref actually starts the count on time. Same for Tyson against Douglas in round 8. History sure would be different.

It was a left hook/uppercut. Watch the fight again. Marciano even comments on the Main Event version of the fight that it was a punch that did it.

I am pretty sure it was a left hook/uppercut, but I will check it again to make sure. Either way, the ref ruled the cut from a punch and Marciano was within a round or two of having the fight waved off. The cut didn't look that bad on film, but it looked pretty gross close-up in pictures.

This one comes to my mind, based on the realted thread:

Hearns does not break his hand in the first round against Hagler, thus he continues to slug it out with Marvelous Marvin. By round 3 Haglers eye is totally closed, and the ringdoctor takes Hagler out.

Hearns TKO3 Hagler. Hagler retires. Leonard does not come out of retiremement. Thus, Danny Lalonde keeps his belt and becomes a long-reigning WBC light-heavyweight champion, who loses his title only in 1995 to RJJ.....

Ali grants a refight to Foreman in Madison Square Garden. No lose ropes, and Foreman, who paces himself properly this time, wins a MD.

Here is a capture of the punch that did it right after it connected

As you can see, his elbow was too far away to clip Marciano afterwards

Hey...that didn't stop people from saying Danny Williams beat a one-legged Tyson and everybody said if Tyson didnt have the injured leg he would have beaten Williams---one fight later with McBride and everybody says he's shot.

You can't have it both ways, either Tyson was shot to begin with against Williams, hell even against Clifford Ettiene, or he wasn't.
Remember Tyson was shot, although you couldn't find anybody before the fight who said that McBum would last more than five!!!!

no punch has ever done damage like charles "supposedly" did to marcianos nose before or after. no punch ever ripped a nose completley open. too do something like that, it has to be something sharp, like the tip of a elbow.

lets be realistic, no punch could do that. it had to be an elbow.

It was pretty clear that it was a punch. It happens in round six and there is nothing that comes close to resembling an elbow in that stanza. It was a punch, as I showed in the picture. Marciano is noticably bothered by the punch immediately afterwards and rubs his nose. Watch again.

Gene Tunney comes out of retirement and beats the living daylight out of Joe Louis to add to his record of beating every single fighter that he has ever faced 8)

Joe Louis' name will look nice next to Gene Tunney's other great wins, such as Jack Dempsey and Harry Greb 8)

Too bad Tunney never would have fought him since Louis was black.

I heard Tunney was colourblind, so it shouldn't have been a problem ..........

.......... I guess the Afro would have been a dead giveaway

Tunney wouldn't have survived Schmeling, Baer - evading Louis wouldn't have helped him much hence.
