Sky TV have refused to televise Muttley V Anderson on 19th May therefore scuppering the fight in Birmingham. Promoter Sanigar asked for a new date but Gilmour refused to agree so to put the fight back out to purse offers to get a chance of the fight in Scotland.

Sky are screwing up fighters careers and will not doubt cost Muttley money as the seond purse bid will fall short of the original.

Disgusting attitude by Sky and Gilmour and I woouldn't mind betting Gilmour has persuaded them to kill the date to cancel the purse offers.

He is just doing a job for his man to get him home advantage, whether he is a tight Scot or not. I thought a boxer paid a manager to do that.

If you were promoting, lost a purse bid but got the chance to get a second chance at bidding what would you do?

This is how I interpret the situation.

1. Chris Sanigar wins the purse bid to stage Muttley-Anderson - a fight mandated by the Board to take place before the end of May.

(this in spite of Anderson boxing in the middle of March and guys like Scott Gammer still waiting for his British title shot a year after winning an eliminator)

2. Sanigar selects May 19 to stage the fight at the Aston Villa Leisure Centre. SKY list the fight within their boxing schedules on their website. However, Sanigar is then informed by SKY that May 19 isn't convenient despite them not replacing the Anderson-Muttley matchup with an alternative fight. Mysteriously, Anderson vs Muttley has now been removed from the SKY Sports Boxing schedule page.

3. Sanigar re-contacts SKY to try and stage the fight in early June. Friday June 2 is thought to have been free but the Board insist that the fight has to take place before the end of May.

4. In the meantime though Tommy Gilmour, manager of Kevin Anderson, lodges a protest with the Board claiming that the original purse bids should be declared null and void because "the wrong contracts were used".

Technically Gilmour has a case, but a wafer thin one at best. When submitting a purse bid to the Board promoters must fill out a Form 35 - a Promoter / Boxer agreement form. The Board have very recently made some changes to the form and informed everyone of this on 7th March. Despite this, the "new" form is still referred to as Form 35 (not Form 35A, or Form 36 etc).

Purse bids for Anderson-Muttley were originally called for March 8th but were then put back to March 24th due to Muttley being injured and Anderson electing to box Craig Dickson on March 17. It turns out than Sanigar submitted his "winning" purse bid using the "old" Form 35.

Let it be stressed, however, that this would have made no difference whatsoever to the amounts that the respective promoters bid in order to stage this contest. Just like the "old" form, the "new" one requires the promoters to state in writing their bid. Old form, New form, Sanigar submitting the winning purse bid by some distance. Gilmour was simply outbid, fair and square.

5. In spite of this, and Sanigar admitting that he had made an honest mistake the Board elected to side with Gilmour and declare the original purse bids null and void. Purse bids for the right to stage Anderson vs Muttley will now be opened by the Board on April 12th with the contest now to be staged before the end of June.

Questions

1. Why did SKY refuse Sanigar the May 19th TV date when they have nothing else scheduled for this date?

2. Why did SKY originally list Anderson vs Muttley, May 19th, at the Aston Villa Leisure Centre within the schedule pages of their Boxing section in their website?

3. Couldn't the Board have cut Sanigar some slack due to the fact that the new Form 35 had no bearing on the original purse bid submissions and also because it had only been in existence for 17 days?

4. Why have the Board now made an end of June deadline for Anderson-Muttley to take place having previously insisted that the fight must take place before the end of May? Even though the purse bids have been put back to April 12th both Muttley and Anderson should have commenced training as they were originally though to be fighting on May 19th.

5. Doesn't all this stink of shit?

it doesnt make for pretty reading and looks a case of an older entrenched promoter/manager using his contacts and knowledge to scupper a fight that was not to his liking.

I was really looking forward to seeing Muttley defend in Brum and thought it was a bold move by an out of town newish promoter to come and stage a fight at the V*lla Leisure Centre - it might have showed the bigger promoters a thing or two.

I really hope Jamie once again wins the re-bid and put the fight on where it belongs - in Brum

Wherever its staged I fancy Lee to do a number on Anderson, incidents like this just make me wish for it all the more.

I am edging nearer and nearer to cancelling my sky sports subscription. Their unwillingness to pick up key international matches, aligned to domestic shenanigans of this nature are bringing that day ever closer..

Muttley wud sell loads to the baggies lads from west brom/wednesfield way. It had the makings of a cracking night.

It'll be a great fight wherever it is held, but even if they fight on the moon Muttley will get beaten by Anderson.
